Researching the topic of immigrant Latina trans women and their organizing was definitely challenging. I could not really find any scholarly articles written about their mobilization around the issue of immigration. I had to focus generally when it came to scholarly articles. It was also pretty difficult to find additional resources because there wasn’t much available.I also wish there were more non-scholarly articles about Latina trans women organizing for immigration rights.I didn’t find much on policy change either, when it came to the activism I did find, it was very direct action. I was really glad to see that there were some organizations that were created and run by Latina trans women though. I was also very dissapointed that I couldn’t find any local immigrant Latina trans women organizations, but I’m hoping that will change in the future.
I really did enjoy learning more about this topic. I used to think about immigration rights in general, but I enjoyed learning about how Latina trans women really are t the forefront of the movement. I’ve also been wondering about a more inclusive immigration reform approach that would ensure that queer and trans Latinx individuals would benefit. I finish this project with a new perspective and an interest to create transformative change for undocumented queer/trans Latinx individuals. There’s still so much work left to do.
