we need to talk about adhd more because when i mention adhd making my life difficult i get hit with the “oh but everyone has a little bit of adhd” or “you’re just strange/a teenager”

when in reality no. no, i get so excited and joyous about fictional characters that i physically cannot stop moving. no, i make small eepy noises and don’t know how to control the urge. no, i get so attached to people that i want to tell them everything and have no sense of boundaries or limits. no, i care so deeply about my special interests that a fucking fanfic can leave me exhausted and crying. no, i can’t remember which side of the plate the fork goes on or the number you told me to keep in my brain 3 minutes ago, but i can remember the song that was playing in target last month or what color jack merridews eyes are (peircing blue, according to the book). i don’t know what time the bell rings in the school system i’ve been part of for three years. i seek stimulation and then get overstimulated and break down. i dread taking the trash to the street not because of the act, but because i have to walk over gravel and i’ve convinced myself it’s not worth it to put on shoes. i can do math three years above my level but everyone thinks i’m stupid because i can’t add two digit numbers in my head.

i’m all for normalizing mental struggles but it feels like adhd has been so normalized that no one makes room to talk about how much it affects people. we’re so often told that adhd does not affect our everyday life when it can and does and needs to be discussed

You know the thing that bothers me most about Hollow Pursuits doesn’t even have anything to do with Barclay?

I mean yeah, his getting physical with holo-Deanna is super creepy, but it doesn’t bother me as much because he’s clearly ill. He has issues that need to be (and are, off-screen) addressed.

What bothers me is Will and Geordi’s reaction.

Yes, Deanna said that a healthy fantasy life was a good thing. She said that when the program was harmless. When the characters were silly and there to bolster Barclay’s confidence with things like fencing. And then, when they came across “the goddess of empathy” Will’s reaction was to throw that statement back in her face, as if suddenly using her image for sexual purposes was in any way on the same level.

“Talk about a healthy fantasy life.” And Geordi’s “Mm!” of agreement.

No. That is not healthy. And what’s worse is they just normalized it to Deanna’s face.

It’s literally like finding out that someone put your face on a blow-up doll and then your friends expressing/implying that it’s a good thing, that they understand why it was done.

It’s disgusting and demeaning and horribly offensive.

Westallen are so in love with each other. And I mean that beyond just romantic love but as friends as soulmates as all the ways 2 individuals connect.

Iris found her passion for journalism along her journey in it. Yes. But who convinced her to step into that world- Barry. That does not mean her accomplishments are his, nope, that ain’t what I am saying.

I just mean- he’s always been in her corner. The same way she’s been in his. She started to care more when she realised just how powerful having a voice could be. How important it was to be a voice for the voiceless. Her first real big topic- The Flash. Why? Because he was living proof that Barry was right. That he wasn’t alone in his beliefs. See, she believed him but he was losing faith (or so she thought based on his way of trying to protect her (sorry but I always hate that we have to hide who we are stuff even when I understand why). She wanted to have credible evidence that he wasn’t alone and to give as I said a voice to the voiceless.

As for Barry- Iris always believed in him. She was the only one that did and that made her even more important than she already was and she was already so important to him. She supported him in every way and that’s why she was the FIRST person he wanted to tell but he was forced to choose, tell her and risk her life or don’t tell her and potentially keep her safe. Of course he chose the latter even if it meant he could lose her (still a dumb idea yo). The roof top or rather THEIR rooftop, where he tells her she was in every step he took and every part of his life-

“Every time I falter, or make a mistake, the thought of you is what picks me up and keeps me going […] Without you, there wouldn’t be The Flash.” - cemented just how important his relationship with Iris is to Barry. (In case you were blind or were watching some other show)

She is in everything he does. She is in EVERYTHING for him.

Even when they’re both not physically there, they’re THERE for each other. They’re always thinking about protecting the other. Be it emotionally or physically. They rely so much on each other- Iris helps Barry as Barry and Barry as The Flash, Barry supports Iris in the ways that she needs and wants. He’s who she looks to when she feels her INCREDIBLE STRENGTH (actual angel over here) slipping. He’s her point of reassurance.

There are so many other ways but it’s early and I’m at work and I can’t get into it too much because I’ll probably never stop. I just needed to say this about Westallen.

They’re so in love, it’s wonderful but they’re not just caught up in the lust or infatuation or the circumstances surrounding them. They are IN LOVE FOR THE LONG HAUL and it’s always been that way with them. They love each other and they know each other and they want each other. They want to fight the darkness, find the light, give a voice to the voiceless, protect people and each other- together and bloody hell if that isn’t magic I tell you.

it's so mind boggling how some people ship melvin. and yes, yes, i'm all for ship whoever you want to ship it's none of my business yada yada yada. but also, watching season 3, and i'm only on episode one, i don't see how some people want to see them together.

i mean, the way the duffers made a real work of portraying them in a complete different light from the other couples we see on the show. lumax, jancy, jopper, we all get moments of them falling for each other, connecting, and then together, moments that make us want to root for them. but they give melvin a complete different treatment.

el and mike, while being together, are portrayed as this annoying couple not even their friends can stand. el is shown as a needy girlfriend whose world starts and stops at mike, and mike is this angry teenager, super disrespectful to people (like hopper) and who brushes everyone else aside because he has a girlfriend now. how do people like that and find it romantic?

i'm not talking about how mike and el are each going through their own arcs. we know mike is still going through stuff and depression that he's suppressed because now el is back and that was supposed to fix everything, so there's no reason for him to still feel so angry and frustrated. and then el has this whole thing not knowing who she truly is now that she is finally allowed to lead a normal life, so she needs to find herself and how her world can grow beyond just one person.

i'm talking about the people who watched season three and ate that shit up and went "ah, yeah. they are so in love and they are goals." like????? the way the duffers built el and mike in this season (the one season they get to be together... well, for just one episode lol) is meant (in my opinion) for us not to like them together. why would we root for them?

you can't tell me they wrote melvin for us to not not like them. the duffers know how to write a couple and have us wanting them together. they know how to give characters moments to bond and connect even in midst of all the supernatural events of the show. but they don't do it with mike and el. so why would we like them? we're clearly not meant to!!
