“Beautiful? You’re the first man to tell me that.” She answered with sarcasm, though flattered on the inside by his compliment. “All these women here yet you’ve come to talk to me.” Taking a moment to glance at the man she had to admit he possessed some handsome features of his own. However Nattie had to uncover his true intentions. “You expect to pour out my life story to a total stranger?” More sarcasm detected. “What is even your name?”

Yes, it did work to bring her back to the present. Myrna had briefly thought that she should be working right now, that there was too much to do at the moment to take time away for herself and another. She was already behind on paperwork and...right. This.

Niccola had nipped that line of thought in the bud quite efficiently earlier.

"How you manage to read me like a book is beyond me...unless I'm just that transparent." Which wouldn't surprise her in the slightest. She wore her emotions on her sleeves and maybe the Orlesians were onto something with those masks. She would be able to do so much better at keeping people from knowing what she's thinking or feeling if there was a barrier.

He had almost gotten used to Niccola and the ladies (as he called the others in his mind) being out of his life. Carver had known, even as their intimacy had deepened and their love blossomed, that it was not a forever thing. She had her work, that took her to all corners of the world. He had his that kept him firmly routed in one little Pacific Coast town.

Then he got the text that she was planning to breeze back into his life once again...

“A flower? For me?” Sally inquired with a child-like grin. Her dainty fingers carefully caressed the petals of the flower in reverence. Years had passed since anyone had done anything so simple and yet so thoughtful for her.

Myrna backed up, hoping to draw the enemy from the open foyer to the narrower corridor where she could funnel them in one at a time. The fight finally seemed to be drawing to a close and she couldn't help but feel relieved that it was almost over. A few stragglers and they'd hopefully have finished clearing them out. Hopefully. Knowing their luck, they'd step out into the gardens and right into an entire army of Freeman.

Killing Sister Costeau a week ago only seemed to encourage them, as it seemed to have turned her into a martyr in their eyes. Auguste was their next goal, if they could find the man. Until then, it was a slow grind of taking them all out piece at a time.

The last one fell with a choked gurgle and Myrna backed away, pausing to catch her breath. Done. She didn't see anyone else trying to get in at them, heard nothing outside, and all of the bodies had gone still save for the occasional twitch.

She didn’t realize one of the enemy corpses that someone else had felled was behind her, and so when she finally turned to make her way to the others, she tripped over it. A hand grabbed her before she hit the ground, cutting off her yelp before it hardly escaped her. The hilts of her daggers fell from her hands with a clatter and the magic she'd funneled into them to make the blades fizzled out. A nice failsafe so she didn't gut herself when she was clumsy.

Like now.

They righted her and Myrna looked up to see it was Niccola; the woman was always saving her ass, it seemed. Truly, the Banal'ras was her saving grace.

"Thank you." She knelt to grab the hilts and quickly latched them in place on her hips, trying to ignore her embarrassment. The Inquisitor tripping over corpses in front of the Mistress...because that did her pride a multitude of favors. "Are you unharmed, Mistress?"

She curled her toes in the thick stockings she'd managed to get her hands on, and held the cup close once Niccola refilled it for her. Two blankets, a fire, warm socks and clothes, and heated mead. Honestly, she couldn't complain about a damn thing.

And anyway, the warmth was lulling her into a sense of debating whether or not she should forgo the mead and books and just take that kip Niccola mentioned.

"Thank you, but no. I don't wish to bother them." She was plenty comfortable enough.

Myrna opened up her blankets with one arm outstretched. Whether it was the warmth or the mead mattered little, she was feeling a little more relaxed and untethered by her usual reservations, and invited Niccola to join her.
