NARRATIVE REPORT ICT @ Niceprint Phoography and Exige Weddings Company
From the moment the Second Semester of our third year in Bicol University as a Communication student, I already had a list of where to apply as an intern for the requirement to OJT in any course related company. Since then, my friends and I have been eyeing for Niceprint Photography and Exige Weddings Company to apply by March, and that’s what we did. So, we passed our creative resumes to their Human resources and contacted them. Luckily, we got accepted. As we started our internship in their company, we realized what really happens in the real world. From the nature of travelling to the office to arriving there in time, since it’s a bit hard for us because we stay far from the company, but still, we managed to cope up with the time management and all. We were told by the company supervisor about how our daily shift’s going to be, so we have to come to office every 10:00 in the morning and out by 7:00 in the evening, and that will be from Mondays to Fridays. Adaptation was a big variable in this case.
At the first week of our internship we were oriented to what kind of tasks are we going to do and how are they should be done or how long should it take for the given task to be finished. While my two other co-interns from our course are assigned to the Post-Production team (video editing) and Production team (photoshoot/pictorial), I was assigned to be trained in the Lead team where I got to make Coffee books, Guest books and thank you cards for the clients.
At first, I find it hard to do the tasks given to me using the software editor Photoshop, I’m almost telling myself that I didn’t knew how to do this kind of stuff since I’m new to it, although I have basic knowledge about editing, and enhancing photos. Of course, their works (the artists) are beyond better compared to my first tries. Then I was taught by my mentor, Sir Warren Sy, how to make it easier to edit and arrange and layout the photos that are needed for the guest book and so as to the coffee book. He taught me the proper way of basic editing and enhancing the photos, and how to make the subjects become more attractive. I’ve learned a lot from him in my first and second week as an intern in their company. It’s enough knowledge that I gained to work there without receiving payment, I understand that we all have to do it to complete the two hundred hours of internship in the company that we applied to in order to complete the required number of hours by our college.
I did different kind of guest books for different kind of clients, from birthday guest books to wedding guest books, I also experienced to edit coffee books, it’s just like a guest book without a separation of page at the middle, it’s called a spread if I can remember. Sir, Warren, as my mentor, he never forgets to check my work if it’s improving and comments in it if I may have done or forgot to do something in my work, he always make sure that my works will pass the quality control of the company so he taught me what he knew and some of his secrets when editing and hot to make it faster to finish the deadline in time so that it will save me more time to make more guest books and coffee books.
After my almost three weeks of being assigned at the lead team of the company editing, enhancing and layout photos for the clients, I was transferred to the Enhancing team where I got to work with Maam Rein as my new mentor. In my first day in the team I was a bit nervous because I didn’t know what exactly I am going to do there, though I was briefed before I left the Lead team. Then Maam Rein approached me and she oriented me about the new task I’m going to do as an intern, there in the enhancing team, I get to enhance the best photos that are selected by my mentor to be posted for their Facebook Page. I was so happy that I got to do those things but of course I was pressured too because I know that the Photos that they are posting online are enhanced in the best way they can be. And that was what inspired me to apply in their company, because I followed their paged and I was really amazed with their photography and editing skills in terms of weddings.
I consumed the rest of my internship in the Enhancing team, and I’m really happy that they post my edits in their page, I felt really productive and all my hardships are being appreciated. As I see that many people who are following the Page like my edits. I am happy even though I did not get a credit for those, I just kept in my mind that at least I got to work in their company and for me it’s a big deal already. And I honored working there.
I never had second thoughts of leaving/changing the company for another internship, though I have to wake up early in the morning to travel almost two hours to reach the office at 10:00 am and arrive home at 9:00pm because I know and I knew that I learned a lot in just a month in their company that I wouldn’t learn by myself even for three months. I’m very thankful for their support and for the support of our Chairperson, Sir Adrian extended for us, for making sure that we’re doing fine in our destinations.
Overall, my two hundred hours of experience in the real world is a boost and I felt my independence in those times that I needed to work at the same time to rest and keep myself together for the sake of the training. I enjoyed every work and every communicating with our co-workers. I learned how to socialize properly and how to manage my time wisely. I think I am ready to work in the future. And I hope that it wouldn’t be very hard for us to find a job or to build our own business someday.
