Rant Time!
Okay, so, i just want to clarify a few things. I'm not a professional AT ANYTHING. I'm not a professional artist, or writer, or singer. What i do, i do for fun. It's my way of creatively challenging myself. I never said i was good, mostly i do it out of the goodness of heart, in a bid to at least try and make at least person happy, hell, even make their day if i can manage it. I'm about spreading warmth and positivity across the internet. So with that in mind, maybe some of you should bear in mind the old addage: "if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all." I don't get what other people get out of trashing someone elses hard work?! Like what is that? Some kind of power trip to make yourselves feel better about who you are? There's other ways of going about that, y'know. In future just stop and think about how the person on the receiving end if going to feel. Yes, i know i'm shit at what i do, but do you know what? Even shitty reviews aren't going to stop me! I'm too old and too long in the tooth to care what anyone thinks of me. All i'm asking is this: just think before you review/ask/comment, bc you never know how much you might upset the other person on the other side of the screen. Thanks for reading.
I feel like the phandom might need to be reminded of this.
My Two Cents
I keep seeing people talking about Dan's latest video. Some are upset because they expected something different. Others are upset because they don't want people pressuring Dan. I think it's important to remember that YouTube is Dan's career. Yes, with his live shows and Twitter interaction, he seems closer to us but he is actually a professional. Someone we only know through a screen. Not to mention he is a grown man. He will post whatever he wants, whenever he wants. If he says something in a live show or in a tweet about uploading something then he does not become bound to it. He has every right to go back on his word. And if something unexpected is uploaded, consider the possibility that his words may have been over exaggerated or taken out of context. He is often very sarcastic and not every word out of his mouth has a hidden meaning. Also, he is human. Sometimes things may slip through his teeth during live shows. In a fit of emotions, he may mention something unintended in a tweet. Don't punish him for it. Don't start making demands and accusations because of it. I agree that perhaps he should take a bit more caution with his words as he knows how enthusiastic his audience is, but I personally would rather have him as is than a robot controlling every word. And if someone does disagree with something he says then do tell him. He may be unaware of some things. But don't start attacking him for it. Simply educate him on the matter and I'm sure he will be more sensitive to any such topic next time. Also, as harsh as it may sound, Dan is not our friend. He is a content creator. Yes, he may care about his audience. But at the end of the day he has himself to care for and can't just work to please us. He needs to think about his future and posting certain videos may cause a change in his career that he may not want. Or perhaps he just doesn't want to reveal things. Whatever they may be. Or there also is the possibility that there is nothing to reveal. If you are curious about certain aspects of his life then just be patient and respectful. Perhaps one day he will reveal himself more. But not if people continue to smother him. He works hard. He deserves to be respected for it. Appreciated for it. Supported for it. If you care for him then watch his videos. Write positive comments and tweets regarding it. And then perhaps someday that barrier between creator and viewer will become thinner and he'll welcome his audience more into his life. But if he never does then so be it. And now on a slightly different note, I also think people need to remember that Dan is not a child and can protect himself. Defense from the community is great. Even a grown man can use some support when some individuals forget their boundaries. But there is no need to throw nasty words around and fight with each other. I'm sure Dan wouldn't want that either. Be understanding of him and be understanding of each other. Become a nicer Internet.
c’mon guys...
if you are a nice phan who doesn’t bully people you can skip this.
seriously, I get if you don’t like cat but don’t post it everywhere where she could see. I was just reading phanfiction and saw someone say something really mean about her... do you even know how your words affect people? i’ll admit I don’t watch her stuff but what if when she turns off the camera and she’s really sad and depressed? what if your comment was all it took to finally push her off the edge? this doesn’t just apply to her, anyone... you have no idea who these people are behind screens. and it might be you that makes them pull the trigger. didn’t Dan say once that if you’re purposely mean and hateful to people it you have no place in this fandom? what did you all just ignore that?
I know what it’s like to find something horrible written about you on the bathroom mirror when you were never meant to see it and trust me, it’s not a nice feeling. don’t be and end to someone’s future just because you couldn’t keep your mouth shut online.
I just got tumblr so I don’t actually now how this all works or if this tag is still in effect but...
