this is possibly the nichest nichcepost i've ever made but probably the best Ominous Mystic Line i've ever read is "Much has been lost, and there is much yet to lose," which is from Tim Powers' The Drawing of the Dark, a historical fantasy about Arthur reborn as a mercenary in 1529

it's such a hard life when you want to make fun of someone for an inherently ridiculous opinion but it's on something obscure so you have to explain too much

@ everyone else: yeah there's a myth about heracles sailing across the mediterranean in a cracked bowl. idk why but my best guess* is that heracles is a semi-comic as well as a heroic figure and as such attracted a lot of myths that weren't necessarily originally about him. also it's funny.

i don't know why I have such a visceral reaction to things transliterated into the Greek alphabet, but anyway, I was looking at the Chronicle of Morea, as you do, and part of it is about the Φράγκοι, and I have never been more uncomfortable.

here is a nichepost to end all nicheposts: there's a song with lyrics by Thomas Moore called "Bendemeer's Stream," which was popular towards the beginning of the 20th century. There is a place in WoW called Aggramar's Vault. You see, I think, my problem.
