"There is one thing we've been avoiding," Mik said, looking over to Nick. It was nice to have breakfast in a proper house, since their ruined-shack had decided to shift to being a little renovated cabin for them this morning. By lunch it could be a bundle of sticks again, or just plain, clean sand. Mik took what he could, including trying to time his bites so that the porridge in front of him was warm and cooked.
"The wedding dance," Mik finally said, putting Nick out of his misery. "Like, do you want to have a cheesy slowdance moment? Or should we just get the tunes going and dance like we're in our twenties?"

Nick looked so peaceful when he was asleep. ...but even after all this time, seeing his partner without life and energy made Jack anxious. It was bad enough when Nick slept through the night-- now he had all but passed out the moment he got home.
It was frightening.
Nick’s boss was clearly working him too hard. Jack wanted to demand that Nick not be driven to exhaustion, but he knew his partner wouldn’t like it if he tried to intervene. Jack could do nothing except help Nick as much as he could once he got home, and if that meant letting Nick sleep during the time they would normally do things together, then so be it. ...Jack just hoped that this wouldn’t continue on for too long. It couldn’t be healthy for Nick to work so hard during the day that he had to sleep while it was still this early.
Although, it was nice to get to see him here in the light. It was usually dark by the time Nick fell asleep, and Jack realized now that that had kept him from seeing just how beautiful his partner was like this. He looked peaceful, yes, but there was more to it than that-- there was a gentle loveliness about Nick’s closed eyes and slow breathing that Jack hadn’t entirely noticed before.
He smiled softly down at Nick and pulled the blanket more fully around him. Jack would probably always prefer his partner to be awake, but it was nice to know that there was something good about Nick being asleep.
