A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
This is a repost of a previous evaluation.
A Nightmare on Elm Street has extreme strobe effects during the opening New Line Cinema production logo, which is the very first thing that happens when the film starts, and lasts just a few seconds. When music starts to play, it is safe to look at the screen. One scene late in the film uses spinning-style police lights, which create a less-intense strobe effect than similar scenes in modern films. At the end, immediately after a fire is put out, there are a few seconds of a lightning-type strobe effect.
There is a very occasional use of shaking or otherwise handheld cameras, but most of the camera work in this film is either stationary or very smooth.
Flashing Lights: 6/10. Motion Sickness: 2/10.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Jump scares throughout, stalking, blood, gore, horror involving worms and maggots, one instance of domestic violence, mentions of child murder and vomit.
