Nick Friendship Test may be an absolute asshole but he’s very compelling. You can tell he genuinely cares about the people who work for him. He genuinely cares about a lot of things. He’s chock full of love and empathy for others. And that’s the problem.
in a story about lovelessness, of course the villain would love. It’s a great contrast! But I do think that Nick as a character could work SO WELL in really any story, even when he isn’t contrasting anything! BECAUSE HE IS REALISTIC.
He is portrayed, unlike so many abusers in media, as a feeling and caring person. And this is really important!! EVERY ABUSER IS A PERSON TOO!!! He isn’t pure evil, he actual genuinely really loves everything, and that’s why he’s so compelling to me. He’s a person too.
My favorite part of Nick is his bond with Void. They were friends. Great friends! They were all the other had! And Nick, despite the “bad friends” in-joke, was genuinely a good friend to Void. At least at first.
It makes so much sense why Void never left. Why Sparks, Devil, Vent, Half - why they never left, either. Nick was their friend. It’s so hard to leave your friend. No matter how rude, cruel, or scary he was, he was their friend. They cared about him. He cared about them. (The example of what happened to Off wasn’t particularly pushing them in that direction, either.)
idk. Nick friendship test I hope it gets better for you but I hope it hurts
I’m having to grapple with the fact that Nick is my favorite character. hm. I do truly hope it gets better for him, and that he becomes a better person. I hope he never interacts with his workers again. But I hope it gets better.
