The opening cinematic ends as the camera transitions into live gameplay, and I’m given control for the first time. Moving Wander around is a joy, both in execution and for the fact that there’s no particular rush or threat as I prepare myself for this world and its as-yet unseen battles. The shrine is empty, save for Mono lying still, and my horse Agro, quietly exploring nearby while I come to grips with the controls.
Kotaku has published an excerpt from Nick Suttner’s book about Shadow of the Colossus, which is due out in a few days. It’s mostly a recount of the beginning of the game and a lot of the little elements that make it good, but it also includes the - as far as we know - origin of the names most of us use to refer to the colossi. Some of you may not even know that those names aren’t official (I was confused on it for a long long time) so check it out.
