When the portal fell open, none of the brothers could anticipate what would fall through. One by one, six figures tumbled through the rift, and Raphael moved with an impossible swiftness to catch every single one of them in powerful hands. He didn’t get a look at them until he was putting them on the ground, giving each a loving pat on the shoulder before his mind caught up with his eyes.
Four mutants— four turtles— and two humans; male and female.
“Ho—“
“—Ly—“
“—Shell!”
Four brothers came to face four brothers. Four turtles to four turtles.
Raphael was faced with one much smaller than himself, coming just barely up to his waist, with a battered shell, dark skin, andeyes that shined as an emerald. Michelangelo pointed his finger at a doppelgänger of a similar size, blue-eyes and freckled, who returned the gesture in kind. Donatello pulled out his cellphone and snapped a picture of the four doubles.
The flash seemed to break the silence like it was a seal, and the double-Mikey screamed. All hands shot to their ears as the turtle’s shout bounced off the walls and seemed to reverberate all around them in a tormenting echo.
“OH MY GOSH HE’S HUGE!” Mikey pointed at Raphael, eyes spreading wider by the second. “HE MUST HIT LIKE A TRUCK!”
Raphael frowned. “I would never do that.”
Both Donatello’s came within an inch of the other, staring intently into the other’s eyes as they tried to decipher the secrets of their match’s mind. For a moment, it seemed as if Leonardo and Leo would do the same.
“Oh no.” Leo said.
Leonardo dabbed.
