Goodies from the Steven Wilson shows with my bestie @the_storm_corrodes . Got the shirt and program day one. Got all the guys to sign my To The Bone and Steven to sign my Storm Corrosion on night two! Also gave Steven a Prince enamel pin I found that I thought he might like. 😄 He was rather excited! Because who doesn't love Prince? @stevenwilsonhq @craigblundelldrums @nickbeggs11 #stevenwilson #craigblundell #alexhutchings #nickbeggs #adamholzman #tothebonetour #thevic #chicago #live #concert #adventuresofvikingbunanddruidsharky2k18 (at The Vic Theatre)

I write about concerts as part of my job, so my beloved is always my +1, but yesterday, the tables were turned as she took ME out to a show—my Valentine’s Day gift, it turned out—to see 1980s new wave stalwart Howard Jones play an acoustic trio show in Huntington. Stripped of the original synth sounds, most of the songs held up as actual songs, and surely more importantly for Jones, it provided a chance to show he can really play (for comparison to his most esteemed peers of the era, Thomas Dolby only ever played clearly well-rehearsed solos, and Nick Rhodes will surely never take a solo to his dying day). Aiding Jones in the endeavor was Kajagoogoo-bassist-turned-respected-musical-polymath Nick Beggs, who in addition to playing standup bass, spent much of the night on a Chapman Stick — an obscure 12-stringed instrument that takes Eddie Van Halen-style guitar tapping to the Ph.D level. Anyway, it was a lovely time, everyone was very Covid-conscious with many wearing masked despite the relaxing of mandates, and it was a good vibe all around.
Nick Beggs filing his fingernails haha!
