I don't fully buy Nick Bolton's argument that we all now multi-task.  Though we do take tons of information in from different sources, much of it is noise.  I think the internet and new forms of media bring a lot to the table, but there is now so much information to take in that is causes overloads.  The internet has the ability to compile what we want to know or could want to know.  The problem is that everyone uses it as their own soapbox.  There are so many people yelling their own opinion, that there is little space to take information in.  In addition, the internet lets us fixates on things that we may perceive as news, but really isn't important to our long term happiness.  For example, I may be drawn in to watching videos about a local restaurant closing or look at pictures of what my friends did during spring break, but in reality I would much prefer to read an article on sustainability or play with an Autocad program.  The desire to multi-task can be crippling at times.  When I can properly do it, my creativity is sparked and I learn a lot.  Mr. Bolton refers to this with the distracting text message example.  If we can pull ourselves away from the distracting buzzing, we can be free to explore the world that is opened to us through technology.
