Bilbo and Thorin bonding over Valentines Day being a bit over a week away and their friends and family suddenly turning into loopy-in-love idiots over it.

Bilbo deciding, in a moment of playfulness, to send Thorin a selection of cheap chocolate bars via a popular online shopping site. (With the message ‘Happy Valentines ;) - B.Baggins’)

Thorin responding with questioning text about it not being Valentines Day yet, but then Bilbo receives a bulk package of Candy Hearts with a similar Valentines greeting.

For a full week leading up to Valentines Day, they cheekily send each other ridiculously over the top cheap Valentines gifts via mail, until Valentines Day morning, Bilbo gets up expecting a final package (and wow, he’s pretty saddened by that actually).

Instead it’s Thorin, in person, at the door. He’s holding a bouquet of roses, a box of breakfast bagels, and hoping Bilbo will join him at the movies later that afternoon, then maybe dinner?

They laugh later, whilst feeding each other not-so-cheap chocolates, that now they’re the loopy-in-love idiots.

I see them both not being very bothered by all the silly pressure of Valentines Day (even if I totally see Thorin being the biggest romantic dork in the end, but when it comes to Valentine’s Day both he and Bilbo sees it as blown out of proportion)

But omg Bilbo deciding to do something silly like that just to joke about the stupid over the top things people do for Valentines. 

OK THOUGH IMAGINE. THORIN GETTING ONE OF THOSE HUGE ASS TEDDY BEARS FOR BILBO. AND BILBO JUST HUFFS. BC ‘WHERE TF AM I GOING TO PUT THIS??? THIS WAS TERRIBLY IMPRACTICAL. YOU’VE HONESTLY ALMOST GONE TOO FAR THORIN. I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE.’ 

When Thorin turns up to ask him on a serious date Bilbo only agrees if Thorin takes the bear back. Except Thorin doesn’t know what to do with it cause there’s not really a return policy on those. So next time Bilbo is over the bear is just awkwardly sitting there in the corner of the living room. 

Ahhh revenge is sweet. 

(And yes eventually they cuddle up for the evening--in a room that isn’t occupied by a giant teddy bear--and agree maybe being sappy and stupid on Valentines Day is kinda fun.)

Strawberry picking! Bilbo and Thorin pick the hottest day of Summer to go to the local field. Armed with a bucket each, they pick a row to scavenge up. Thorin finds it to be exhausting and stops after the bucket is 3/4 full to fan himself. Some how Bilbo is ways ahead and his bucket must be full now right? Calling out, Thorin is surprised, but felt he should have known better when Bilbo turns to him, cheeks bulging, bucket barely 1/3 full, and a bashful look on his face. Bilbo loves strawberries

EHEHE omg Thorin taking the picking very seriously and stopping to survey every berry and carefully placing them in his bucket and it never even occurred to him to taste as he went. When Bilbo’s caught he thinks Thorin’s going to accuse him of slacking or something but Thorin’s eyes light up and exclaims, “oh tasting them as we go! Why haven’t I been doing that? Oh, half of the berries in my pail are probably sour.” Bilbo chuckles nervously and agrees that’s the proper way to pick berries, of course! 

When they’re done Thorin’s very excited to help Bilbo with baking and making the berries into jams  ლ(╹◡╹ლ)

What?

Bilbo, after numerous offers, ends up at Bofur’s this New Years Eve. He vaguely recalls the motley crew his friend hung out with when they were teens (one in particular), and is sure he’ll leave after a polite 1-2 hours of visiting.

Except he’s manhandled as soon as he’s knocked on the door (armed with wine and pie, as he was raised with good manners), and ends up standing awkwardly with one grumpy Thorin Durin. Bilbo is unimpressed with the wink Bofur sends his way as he makes his escape.

Bilbo remembers pretty boy Thorin, and isn’t prepared for the fact that Thorin has finished growing into his nose, taken some sort of rocker route if his long hair is any indicator, and managed to suddenly shoot up to 6ft something.

He’s impossibly more attractive.

And somehow he hasn’t changed a single bit, Bilbo amused as Thorin stumbles his way into conversation, then some awkward flirting (not any better since they were 15), and by the time it midnight, Bilbo’s exasperated and just yanks broody man into New Years smooch that Thorin gets very enthusiastic about.

[It’s some stupid hour and I’m not all impressed with how this managed to climb out of my head, but I really wanted to send you a New Years AU]

Stupid cute like Thorin waking up in the middle of the night to find Bilbo not in bed? Then hearing sounds from the kitchen & finding him baking gingerbread cookies. Most are half built stacks of stars, resembling pine trees.

Usually he’d set about convincing Bilbo to come to bed, but his husband has been stressed more as Christmas gets closer. So instead he takes a seat at the breakfast bar, picks up a discarded tablet & flicks through it. Bilbo eventually starts venting (Lobelia, Work, Rude customers he’s encountered, Gandalf, Lobelia). Thorin nods through it, munching on still warm cookies. The sober mood is broken when Thorin accidentally pops a still hot one in his mouth and yelps, causing Bilbo to startle then break out into laughter. His laughter dies down to a chuckle and he kisses his silly, sulking husband. Mmmm gingerbread~

EEEEEEEE i just love the idea that bilbo is a stress baker. like him aggressively stirring the ingredients or violently smearing cookies with icing. and thorin just knows not to approach directly and to just sit there long enough for bilbo to start ranting to him about everything stressing him out. 

no doubt thorin is a little sleepy so it’s no surprise he accidentally reaches for the fresh-out-of-the-oven scorching cookies~

Also, Thorin = Princess Leia? I mean, General and King are practical same level here. Soooo...... Bilbo = Han Solo? Am I going the right direction with this. Should Smaug = Chewie? I need to think about this more. (Wait.... Frodo = Kylo Ren? *fitz out*) Maybe it all changes based on the Trilogy you'd AU on.
