Nicky can be....both?
hey idk maybe this is a super wild concept but I think a character doesn’t have to be limited to ONE personality trait only. Is Nicky a feral garbage cat? Absolutely. is Nicky also soft, kind hearted and tender? YES. Nicky is a HUMAN BEING who is capable of both cold, seething rage and passionate love! trying to fit a character into Box A or Box B is disregarding the fact that a character is an individual first and foremost and is hence allowed a wide spectrum of emotions and personality traits! Nicky is feral and protective because he LOVES his husband, he LOVES his family, and for the very same reasons he is also the ‘heart and soul’ of the group. For very similar reasons it’s kind of unfair to divide Joe and Nicky into a dichotomy ie Joe is the more protective one/the more romantic one etc etc, they can be BOTH!!!
(but yes, maybe we can agree that joe is the more dramatic one, the one who wears his heart on his sleeve unlike Nicky, whose manner of showing affection is quieter and more subtle, but that ABSOLUTELY does not mean that Nicky is any less romantic. Joe is loud and passionate and we love him for that.)
Nicky is the one who says ‘peace be with you’ and he’s the only one who thinks Nile may be exhausted and drawn out after a *VERY* strange day, Nicky is the one whose eyes fill with tears when he thinks about Quynh trapped at the bottom of the sea, Nicky is the one who suggests that twenty year sentence but Nicky is also the one who agrees that one hundred years might be a better punishment and are we just going to ignore the way Nicky fights? The look of pure seething rage he directs at Merrick when he talks to them? The way his lip curls when he looks at Joe while they’re in Sudan? LISTEN!!!!! Respect Nicky’s character and maybe allow the possibility of him being an actual person who can be BOTH a soft and gentle cinnamon roll AND an absolutely ruthless motherfucker?
