ACT IV // Chapter III
Thunder Before the Storm
“What if you miss?” she asked inquisitively. With the barrel aimed squarely at the target, I let out a sigh.
“Peaches, let me do my job.” We laid there in the prone position, overlooking the courthouse from a nearby rooftop. We were waiting for Senator Johnston to walk out of the building after his proceedings. Congressman, lawyer, husband, drug pusher, sex trafficker, rapist, pedophile; I’ve been following this foul smelling soft stool for a year, and now he’s in my sights.
With a deep breath held, I pulled the trigger. Pressing my finger down felt like the piece of breathing scum I was pressing down. Bang! Even from across the street I can feel his blood spill. With a gesture of satisfaction, I flicked the blunt roach aside. “C’mere Sweetcheeks.” I pulled her toward me and drove her mouth to mine.
One less loose end. Sirens blared in the background as pandemonium ensued on the block below us. The thrill of causing so much mayhem had my blood rushing. Her eyes lit up as she let out a cackle of excitement.
There was electric in the air. We both felt it. We were only 60 miles from the border when we decided to find the nearest motel. It was a seedy stick in the mud just outside the desert, but the check-in made good wings, so I couldn’t complain.
I popped the cork of a bottle of sparkling and poured it into Peaches’ glass, then mine. She bit her lip and came in to kiss me. “So, who we gotta kill next, Daddy?” she asked me. My mind whirred, trying to think of a smart response involving ‘petite mort’ but nothing came out.
My eyes intensified as I gripped her waist, then tossed her into the bed. She spurt out a surprised laugh and reached her arm out signalling me to come to her. Her body writhed in desire as she turned over and lifted up her skirt. I was an animal in heat, and I wasn’t going to go easy.
In less than ten hours we’ll be at a rendezvous point South of the border getting lifted by chopper. We still have a treacherous road ahead. I’m going to take advantage of the time we have now.
