MerMay Vignettes [6/???]
(Disclaimer: one of the characters in this story does not belong to me. Nic Loughty is the OC of my good friend @the-matpat-ever . Please check out his blog and support his art.)
(Since it’s MerMay, most of my fanegos have gotten a special little shift for the occasion! I’ve organized a new, temporary list of headcanons for The Pentas Family—each member’s species, vague lore-bits, etc.—which can be found here for context.)
(As for the fanego who does belong to me: for more information on Parker, go here. For more information on the mob he works for, go here. )
(Trigger Warnings: body horror, the ocean, descriptions of illegal business, mentions of death/murder, strong language. Please let me know if I missed anything.)
When selkies were newborn pups, it was very common for their developing pelts to be white and fluffy and snow, darkening and smoothing out as they grew, as they got the hang of switching back and forth between forms. Only a few species kept that pale hue, but darker patches would always form around their backs and muzzles.
Nic had seen plenty other selkies with pelts that were gray, sometimes adorned with a spray of irregular spots. He’d seen other pelts that were nearly pure black, either set off by streaks of white, or eventually revealed to be a deep, dark shade of brown when the sunlight hit them just right.
Nic’s pelt happened to be brown, for the most part. There was a pattern of somewhat lighter rings that peppered their way through the fur almost like freckles on skin. Even so, he felt like his could almost pass that aforementioned darkness test…as long as you only saw his back. His pelt’s underbelly, on the other hand, was a cloudy shade of silver. Even he had to admit that the contrast was quite pretty, but it didn’t make the best camouflage.
But that didn’t quite matter right now, because he wasn’t in his other form, wasn’t in the water. His pelt was, as usual on days or nights like this, wrapped around him like a very elaborate mixture of scarf and poncho. The front flippers wound around his forearms while the back flippers hung near his legs. The entire midsection was flush to his back a few minutes ago…but by now, he’d absentmindedly let it drape lower, the seal’s hollow head hanging against its back as though it’d had its neck snapped in the most violent way.
All selkies had large, dark eyes—so dark that, from a distance, their pupils appeared to have just completely swallowed up their irises and scleras—no matter what form they were using and Nic was no exception. His knew that his eyes were dark enough to help him out right now, here in the shadows of the storage closet.
It’d been a random choice of hiding spot; he’d been more zoned out than he’d care to admit when his keen hearing had picked up on the sound some something smooth and sinuous sliding over the grass outside, and he’d had to rush to stow away just as the familiar pattern of awkward thumps and under-the-breath swearing reached the room.
Still, he supposed it was working well enough. The computer was up and running, throwing its violently bright glow throughout the room. But the desk it was mounted on was positioned in away that left the closet and its ever-so-slightly-cracked door shielded.
He had plenty of cover. He could watch and wonder as much as he damn-well pleased.
Just so long as he didn’t make any sudden moves…
There were many benefits to including a basement in a music studio’s layout. The mass of soil and concrete around the walls was perfect for blocking low-frequencies, and so sound-isolation was made much easier, whether it was for voices or instruments.
Although, just like everything else, there was a set of cons to go with the pros of such a setup.
However, those cons usually involved things like excessive humidity damaging foster molds and audio equipment, or sounds still finding ways to bleed up through the ceiling.
Of all the routines Nic had learned for the sake of this part of the studio, he’d never thought a midnight intruder in the form of a naga could be on the list of things to look out for.
(Then again, none of his co-workers—a rag-tag group of humans and a few harpies—knew about said intruder. Because he hadn’t told them. Because despite how scared he’d been the very first time, the naga hadn’t spotted him, and the naga hadn’t actually done anything to harm the studio or any of the stuff inside it, and he’d maintained that behavior for all the subsequent times he’d snuck in, so Nic personally didn’t see any problems.)
Normal snakes tended to go about home-invasion via cracks in foundation, crawl-spaces, vents, and sometimes even pipes connected to sinks or toilets (Nic wished that last option was as much of a lazy urban legend as it sounded, but one freak-accident in a shady motel years ago was more than enough).
Even if nagas had the autonomy and societal presence to enter places just with a knock on the door, they still had the potential to be more…creative about it.
You couldn’t have a basement without a window-well. And nowadays, you just couldn’t have a window-well without a grate on top of it.
And yet, despite the paranoia said grates were associated with, Nic had only see a few that came with actual locks. The one that sat atop Ear Caffeine’s window-well certainly didn’t.
The fact that the frame around the window’s outer screen had corroded enough for it to fall away easily didn’t help.
The window’s actual lock wasn’t broken, didn’t have any deformities that kept it from latching properly, but as Nic had seen, that didn’t really matter.
Rain had been pelting the roof for almost half an hour, and if the sound of deep, distant rumbling even further above was anything to go by, the storm was only just getting started for the night.
But for now, it wasn’t enough to start making the window well before more like a traditional well, to make it look like a very unconventional fish tank until it gradually soaked into the dirt beneath the rocks that lined the bottom.
A low, metallic creeEEAak filtered into Nic’s ears, and he watched as a strange silhouette descended down the well’s wall, pausing just outside the window.
A muffled chorus of little clicks and crinks bled through the glass…and then it was being pushed aside, momentarily letting in a cool, humid draft.
I'VE FINALLY DRAWN MY BABY NIC CORRECTLY

My favorite fnaf character would have to be the puppet
I'm not even talking about Charlotte Emily necessarily
Love her but I just love the puppet as like a separate being
I've seen so many people make so many versions of the puppet/characters based off of the puppet's design and I'm obsessed with it
Take Mare for example, he has the purple/blue streaks down his cheeks which give a very fnaf puppet-esc look to him if we look at the song Mangled in a fnaf way [because his fnaf/fandom songs can be interpreted in other ways]
AND PUPPET DAWKO
OMG
We love🫶
And even an old series called Minecraft Five Nights At Freddy's Roleplay me thinks [Now called Oddities Roleplay] we see Puppet as a male who is very very silly and was married to Funtime Foxy before they got tragically divorced😔💔
IT WAS SO SILLY
And the fnaf musical's version of the puppet being an actual mini puppet on strings IS SO CUTE
The moral of the story is to make a version of the puppet or make an oc based off of its design
You know you want to
You have creative freedom to do whatever you like with them
I've done it with my own oc Nicolas Loughty
He was actually based off of Mare because of LORE REASONS
I PROMMY IT MAKES SENSE
Well, I mean my fnaftm version of Nic. I have two versions of him and I'll probably make another post of the other version of Nic whenever my lovely mutual develops more of her lore:)
I DREW NIC AS HE GREW UPPPP :D
Hehehe
I swear I can never give my boy justice when I draw him..

Nicolas Loughty [ My FNAF: The Musical oc ]
MYY BABYYYYYY<333
About him~
Nic is a very hyper and talkative person even if he's more of an introvert and keeps to himself! He is quite friendly but do not misinterpret it as him being a people pleaser, he's not afraid to call out on bullshit and defend himself or his friends when there's a need to.
He is a die-hard fan of Nathan Sharp and owns quite a hefty amount of his vinyls. Keeping with Nate's style, he owns a few emo clothes but he leans toward more scene or gothic depending on his mood. For the most part he doesn't really have the time to put on any makeup or put together super detailed outfits.
He's a trans guy fwi because I say so and isn't very comfortable with his voice. Because of that he struggles with wanting to make covers of his favorite songs with hating how he sounds (he often feels embarrassed about things like that, including singing in front of people). He's a beginner guitarist but he's still happy with the progress he's made (even if sometimes he feels frustrated with the very little progress). He graduated at the age of 17 because his birthday was a little late. He played the bass clarinet in Jazz band and switched between flute and clarinet in marching band in highschool.
As for his death...he worked two jobs. One at a music shop where he tried learning the guitar and one at Freddy's if he was particularly low on money. In all honestly, working the dayshift at Freddy's wasn't all that great. It was because of his damn boss. The working conditions were horrid because he would constantly mistreat the staff. Nic had called out Mad's bullshit over a multitude of times but since he really needed the money, he continued to work there.
When he was particularly low on money, struggling to get by with groceries and bills as a 19 year old, he takes the nightshift. He didn't want to but all of the dayshift positions were taken at the time. And so he did.
He had gotten to hang out with the animatronics after meeting them...it was quite an interesting experience...He had gotten so bored when the animatronic puppets took a nap that he started snooping around the place. It's what he did when he got bored (couldn't ever keep to his damn self when he was like that). This has bit him in the ass and it will again. Permanently.
He goes snooping in Mad's office and starts looking through his files in an opened drawer. It wasn't HIS fault, they were all out in the open and he had to know! Well lucky for Nic Mad was still at the pizzeria roaming around unknownst to him. Well guess who finds Nic sifting through his private files! Mad had snatched them out of his hands and once he realized that the kid had found out about his real identity, it doesn't go so well..Nic is strangled to death.
Nic's soul then lives on in an old damaged doll that Mad had created a while back. Since it was so life altering (quite literally), he became meek and silent. But it was mostly because the dolls mouth was sewn shut, leaving him unable to speak. He was named The Listener, or Li for short by his now close furry friends. He became fearful of Mad but as time went on, stuck in that doll, his fear eventually turned into pure resentment. It gets to the point that Li starts planning out Mad's DEATH and has tried to kill him on multiple occasions. He does eventually cut open his stitches that sew his mouth together so that he can actually talk.
He protects lost kids the best he can if they somehow manage to stay after hours. Him and the animantronics keep the child company and make sure the kid is safe. But unfortunately accidents usually tend to happen at Freddy's...
Fun fact: Li/Nic eventually learns that he can leave the doll, projecting a sort of Astral form(think of like the fnaf movie with Cassidy talking to Abby). His Astral form takes on the appearance of when he died so there are major bruising around his neck in the shape of hand prints and deathly pale translucent skin and dark circles under his eyes. I have yet to drawn this version of him but I'm very excited to :3
