What are some aspects of book design that bring you the greatest joy? Perhaps you could share some of your current projects that you're really excited about? From @nlcaputo, New York, NY (originally from Northport, NY): “As book cover designers, we straddle some interesting design challenges. First, we need to create a cover that will grab the attention of the intended audience, and perhaps even expand the readership further. At the same time, we also need to be true to the content and the author’s voice. And finally, one of the most interesting tasks for me, is to find a solution that is not only attractive or bold or beautiful, but also clever, and can enhance the reader’s experience. Of course it isn’t necessary to place some hidden gem within the design that carries a deeper message related to the text — but I find that is often the most rewarding and satisfying part of an already stimulating process. As for my current projects, I am reading and thoroughly enjoying the manuscript for “Godshot” by @chelseabieker, which is coming from @catapult in Spring 2020, and I cannot wait to start designing the cover. I am also about to start “Desert Notebooks” by @benehrenreich, which is on our @counterpointpress list for that same season!”
