Whenever I get sad, I like to come and look at your blog. But then i end up getting a little sad about the fact that I don't think i could ever cosplay as well as you do... oh well, not everyone can be a great cosplayer (well mostly just me because im not very good haha). You're cosplay is still amazing and always will be!~

But, oh Anon, 5 years ago I was at the state where I was sure I’d NEVER be where I am right now with cosplay.
Let me bring you through just a FEW examples of “Mooey’s dreadful despair inducing cosplay fashion show”
This is me cosplaying wash. Yes. Wash. From firefly. No wig, closet cosplay except for the haiwaiian shirt I got from a thrift shop a week before the convention. And the “no makeup” is going to be a RUNNING THEME in this little adventure
A little bit better! This time, I have a prop! (the girl in the show has a flip phone with a black braid on it) but again all of those clothes are from the thrift shop and no wig no makeup. Also, I have no idea how to pose for photos!
Well this time we’re moving up to wigs at least but look at how much CARE I took of that wig aka not at all it’s all over the place what happened and no makeup.
And finally even though it’s not cosplay here have this. This piece of gold from the yesteryears oh yes look at me I am so cool
Basically my point with all of this, anon, is that…. it’s not impossible to improve at cosplay! We all gotta start from somewhere before we learn the tools of the trade and how to get better at things!!!!
And you know, during those years where I wasn’t used to cosplay, didn’t know how to bind properly, didn’t know jack shit about doing cosplay makeup…. those were the years that I met most of my cosplay friends at conventions. Those were the years I made the strongest connections to people. They didn’t care if I had a rat nasty wig on!! Because Cosplay isn’t about “looking good” or looking bad or being 100% accurate to the character. Cosplay is about creation. It’s watching an anime or television show, falling in love with a character, and using that fanatic admiration to study the character hard enough to remake their appearance in real life, whether it’s “OMG SO GOOD HANDMAKE EVERYTHING WITH THE FINEST SILKS” or a trip to salvation army. Cosplay is about having other people recognize you in a hallway at a convention and forming and instant and special connection with that person, just because you realize you both like the same show.
For me, on this blog, the most important thing is not about how many followers I get or how good I look in the cosplay. The most important thing for me is any time my blog makes someone smile, and the awesome people that also have ask blogs that I follow (As I slowly try to get over my social anxieties and be friends with them gosh they are all SO COOL and so awesome ugh platonic dokis).
Cosplay shouldn’t be about looking like the best, or having the best body for the character or having to reach some sort of “passing standard”. It’s about love, man. Love for the show, love for the character, love for all the other nerds who are your brethren who all go to the same conventions, or all reblog from the same blogs.
So I am sorry but… I disagree! Every cosplayer is a great cosplayer! >8U Everyone has their own style and how they do things, and that’s super cool and alright!
All I’d say as an afterthought is, take advantage of the internet for cosplay tips! It’s not like I magically made my own techniques for makeup or invented my tips and tricks. I learned them from tutorials, friends, and observations!
