For anyone who is interested but has limited time/bandwidth and might not be able to commit to the exchange, you can still participate in the fun!

What kind of works are welcome?
This exchange welcomes ANY AND ALL CREATIVE MEDIUMS. Any fan, no matter their skillset, is welcome to participate.
Ideas of mediums include but are not limited to:
Fanfic, Poetry, Fan Translations, Podfic, Fanart, Crafts (embroidery, modelling, cosplay, dolls, jewelry, etc), Manips, Fanvids, Filk, Gifsets, Fan Music, Games, etc.
What’s the minimum requirement?
Because ANY medium is welcome, it’s hard to put a clear measure on this. We will therefore operate on the honor system and trust you to use your judgement.
Your general guideline is to create a completed original transformative fanwork for your giftee, of a quality that you would be happy to receive yourself.
As a general guideline:
+500 words minimum for fic
+5 minutes minimum for podfic
In order to increase accessibility, we also ask that any images-based works please include an alt-text, or written description for screen-readers.
If you have questions/concerns, please contact us at [email protected].
Anyone is welcome to create Treats based on the prompt list (or not!).
There is no need to sign up as a treater. Treaters take part in the fun by creating something and getting to enjoy everyone’s gifts!
Treats do not have any minimum requirements and can be submitted even after deadline.
As the prompt list will remain anonymized, if you’d like to treat a specific participant or gift the treat to a participant by name, please contact the mods so we may assist you with the information.
Treats can be posted to the NIFTREAT collection at any time, even after the submission deadline. The NIFTREAT collection will also be revealed on Nov 18 and remain anonymous until Nov 25.Treaters are welcome to request help and support from mods just as any other participant in NIF exchange should they need it.
If you (like me) are a last-minute sign-up person, don’t tarry much more!
Sign ups close when it is no longer SEPTEMBER 20TH anywhere in the world.

PROMPT LIST 2018

Please have a look thru all the FAQ and details at https://nifexchange.carrd.co
UNTIL JANUARY 25th, 2020. Winners will be announced on February 5th, 2020.
WHO CAN PLAY?
Everyone and anyone at all.You do NOT have to have participated in the NIF exchange to nominate or vote for your favorite works. Creators, betas, treaters, pinch-hitters, cheerleaders, readers, lurkers, absolutely everyone is welcome to play!
We do however ask you to comment while signed into AO3. In the event you do not have an AO3 account, you can comment as a guest but please sign each comment with the same username/email, so that we may keep track of your participation and contact you if necessary.
HOW DOES IT WORKS?
All works, including treats, from the 2019 NIF exchange collection are eligible to be nominated for various award categories. (With the exception of any works tagged “NIFEX AWARDS OPT-OUT”.)
Nominate your favorite works for an appropriate set award category, or make up your own free category. Other participants can agree with your nomination by adding votes for that work in said category. For each category, votes will be tallied at the end to see which work had collected the most, and be declared the winner of that category.
There are no limits on how many categories a single work can be nominated for. Simply put, go nuts.
To nominate a work for a category, simply comment on a work.
To help mods out, please include at the beginning of your comment this phrase:
“I nominate this work for (name of category) in the 2019 NIF exchange awards.”
Once a work has been nominated, if you agree with this nomination, you can add your vote to that work in the specified category. To vote, comment on the work and include this phrase:
“I vote for this work in the (name of category) for the 2019 NIF exchange awards.”
Obviously, you are HIGHLY encouraged to elaborate in detail, in your comment, on why you have nominated or voted for the work for that category.
OOOOH, WHAT DO WE WIN?
Love and appreciation and bragging rights!! Perhaps banners if mods can muster it.

OTHER FAQ
How many nominations can I make for a single work?
To give the maximum number of works a fighting chance, please make a maximum of 2 set category nominations and 2 free category nominations per person on a single work. (max of 4 nominations)
There are however no restrictions to how many votes you can cast in other categories (nominated by other people) for that same work.
Also, there are no limits to how many category nominations a work can receive overall, provided no more than four nominations are made by the same person.
How many votes can I cast on a single work?
As many as you like, provided each vote pertains to a different category. Even if you cast multiple votes for the same work in one single category, your votes will still be counted as one unique vote for that category.
Example:
You nominate Gift by Santa for the “Sharpest Knife” category and “Best Jianghu” category.
You also nominate it for “best mother hen Li Gang” free category, as well as “best trolling of MCS” free category. This is the maximum number of nominations you can make on this work.
You just love this work so much, you also vote for it in the “best MCS” “best introspection” and “best use of flower arrangements” categories, nominated by other people.
Can I nominate many different works for a single category?
Hell yes! For example, if anything Zhan Ying is your jam and you want to nominate all works with ZY for the “best Zhan Ying” category, you are more than welcome to do so. You must comment on each of these works to do so.
Can I nominate or vote anonymously?
Sorry, no. We do require you to be signed into your AO3 account to participate in the awards. If you don’t have an AO3 account, please sign each comment with a username and platform where we may reach you, and use the same one across your comments. (Ex: username @ twitter ) However, nothing prevents you from still leaving anon feedback for the creator!
Can I, as a creator, moderate what nominations I accept on my work?
Yes. If you wish to have control over which nominations made on your work you accept or not, set your commenting preferences to “enable comment moderation”. (Edit your NIF exchange work, scroll down to Privacy and check the “enable comment moderation” box)
This way, you will see each comment privately first and can choose to make them public or not.
I am a creator and I do not wish my work to be part of these awards.
That’s totally fine! If you do not wish to receive any nominations or votes, please include the tag “NIFEX AWARDS OPT-OUT” in your work’s tags. This way, people will know not to bother you.
