This is why I am really frustrated by the growing absolutist language in fandom (and cdrama fandom.). Sometimes a drama doesn’t work at some particular point in time, and then sometimes moods change and it all clicks later.

I might have to eat some old crow on Nirvana in Fire because as someone who dropped it back when it first came out, for years I held it as my "popular show that I didn't enjoy" drama.

But I am enjoying it now? a lot? I mean, I still question Mei Changsu's decision to install Xiao Jingyan as the emperor, like that cinnamon roll of a grumpy cat should not be anywhere near the throne.

But the characters have depth! And how Nihuang manages to be Strong (TM) but doesn't feel like a #bossbabe inspo poster.

Mei Changsu, are you sure about the whole making Xiao Jingyan into emperor thing?

I mean, I get that this is a political intrigue primarily, but how about finding that bad tempered cinnamon roll of a boy a nice girl/boy (whichever way he swings) and allow him a peaceful life away from the throne.
