- Xiao Ruofeng: I'm going to scheme and use my death to solidify my brother the Emperor's reign and eliminate his ennemies! I'll die for my country! and leave behind a whole host of new issues
- Li Lianhua: what country, I'm going to scheme only to settle my affairs and then retire alone to die for myself and give the emperor the only cure to my poison (but not because I like him)
- Mei Changsu: I'm going to scheme to clear my name and the unjustly executed former crown prince's and put a whole new emperor on the throne! And then I'll go to war and die, so that dying for myself is also dying for my country!
- Xiao Se (who is notably Xiao Ruofeng's nephew): I'm going to clear my name (former crown prince) and my unjustly executed uncle's! I'm going to put a whole new emperor on the throne! And then I'll go to war for my country! But FIRST I'm going to find an immortal on an island at the end of the world to cure me so I DON'T HAVE TO DIE.

Jingyan is so pretty but also tbh Yu Wang has my whole heart. He would be the main character in a Guy Ritchie movie and I mean that in the best way. He needs to be able to serve champagne and raw oysters while a murder happened on his estate.
