Any time I revisit The Quarry, I am re-Stunned that it had so many people calling the acting bad because it's goofy and awkward, and am reminded of how it's a contender for my favorite video game in terms of the acting because it's goofy and awkward in a way that does feel "actual people having actual, often goofy and awkward interactions that aren't scripted or perfectly calculated to land like they imagine it 'should' for a movie". Highlights that come to mind include:

Laura having a laugh in her voice at Max's joke in the "L-word" bit even as she tells him what she actually meant.

Jake saying "food snack" instead of "snack food" without missing a beat and then revealing that he thinks the word is "wheelbarrel" instead of "wheelbarrow", which Emma then subtly-cheekily and "lol I'm just gonna do this for me" pokes fun at.

Dylan making most of his quips in a dry, meandering, fairly quiet tone that can be interpreted both as "lol i'm just... so chill..." and "haha I'm feeling a little shy about saying these things and making these jokes I have no clue if I'm actually funny..."

Ryan in general. I Am So Glad The Fans Were Quick To Pin Ryan As Autistic-Coded Because Good Lord in the in-between of Customer Service-Mode and being around people I'm super-comfortable with, He Talks Like Me For Real. Some People Just Speak Kind Of Flatly At Times Or Even Most Of The Time. He still has plenty of moments where he audibly and visibly loosens up a bit getting amused by and/or more comfortable around Dylan, trying to cautiously joke around the obviously-incredibly-stressed Chris, and so forth.

Kaitlyn abruptly gushing about how cute Abby and Nick are and then giggling at them about it to sell her point, and then Abby going "...okay......? 😅"

Whoo Boy Jax TADC's "You weren't supposed to care. You weren't supposed to miss me. You weren't supposed to love me" from the perspective of her being a closeted trans character is too fucking real --

There's a coin flip in my brain anytime someone refers to Lucas as Southern/Louisiana/Cajun/swamp/etc. Jigsaw that determines whether I internally go "lol yup that's him that's the man" or pedantically "no he is not Jigsaw. not even close. Jigsaw's whole thing is pretending to himself that he has consistent principles. He is motivated by contempt. Lucas openly has no principles. He is motivated by The Lulz. in that regard you could say that he is the Opposite of Jigsaw actually" —

Working on a Rant about how there are times where some RE7 fans seem ready to point out how fucked up the whole "bad seed" concept is with regards to it being messed up to treat Eveline like she's Actually Evil but go ahead and act like treating Lucas like he Just Inherently Sucks And Always Has is Just Fine, and how That's Actually Fucking Weird, but trying to do it very carefully as someone who Fucking Hates It When Lucas Is Woobified And Not Treated Like He Actually Sucks --

Kpop Demon Hunters 🤝 Princess Tutu Genuinely really cute, fun, well-written, touching, and beautifully-animated music-themed works about finding the hope, self-realization, and determination not to feel doomed by the internalized definitions others have set for you that made a lot of people who watched them cry but also that a lot of people didn't watch entirely because they thought the titles seemed really corny --

Attrition is god-tier but man I am surprised that at least so far, it's the only fic I've seen that makes use of the fact that if she was hanging out with Crope, Glinda easily could have known where Elphaba'd gotten off to after the third timeskip, especially given that it's outright said that he's where Nanny got that information. And sure, I wouldn't be surprised if the in-universe explanation for her not seeking Elphaba out herself in-text was something like "yes, she said she missed her and wanted to see her again and said that outright when Fiyero ran back into her and Crope... but in the seven years since that, her thoughts around feeling abandoned by her got extra-complicated to the point where she thought maybe she'd Not go actively trying to see her again right away out of spite" or the like, but still.
