Incubi

Gli incubi sono demoni della mitologia nordica e anglosassone conosciuti col nome di "mares". Si siedono sul petto di chi dorme e gli procurano brutti sogni. In inglese, infatti, il termine usato per «incubo» è «nightmare», che vuol dire "demone della notte". In tedesco si chiamano "alpdrücken". Il termine «incubo», invece, viene dal latino «incumbere», ovvero "giacere sopra". Se la parola descriveva inizialmente solo i sogni in cui si crede di soffocare, dal XIX secolo in poi è stata usata per descrivere tutti i brutti sogni.

Nightmares ||

Asaki sighed out quickly,sitting up in her bed and gripping the sheets; images of blood , knives and other torture like implements haunted her thoughts. "S-top it.." She was panting, sweat covering her body, grey under her eyes.

The older woman ran a hand through her slightly damp hair, panting only filling the pitch black room along with the light of her cell phone which showed the time. She had gotten an hour sleep at most, nightmares had been getting worse and worse since she was a child- now an adult. 

Asaki froze and stopped, sensing something in the room with her, in was a familiar feeling that haunted her nightly. "W-ho's there? "She asked, trying to hide the shakiness in her tone.
