We all know and love the beloved Shadowhunters and Ketterdam’s most vicious gang. I could feast my eyes upon all the fan art and read blogs covering every aspect of these books until I'm old and gray and still not get enough. But there are many other amazing characters out there just waiting to feed your fantasy craving. Find below 3 series that, in my humble opinion, not only make the cut, but practically demand to be heard.
1. the Night and Nothing series by Katherine Harbour-- there are 3 books in this collection: Thorn Jack, Briar Queen, and Nettle King. These books are in my top 10 favorite books list. An awesome modern retelling of the ancient Scottish Ballad Tam Lin-This story includes love, fantasy and myth steeped in a gothic atmosphere. A must read for any fantasy lover. Plus, they have gorgeous covers. Enough said.
“In the beginning was nothing. From nothing emerged night. Then came the children of nothing and night...their creed is Mischief, Malevolence, and Mayhem.”
2.A duology- Between the Devil and the Deep Blue sea and Between the Spark and the Burn by April Genevieve Tucholke. A gorgeous, yet terrifying story that mixes gothic horror and a dreamy contemporary romance. Something different to satiate the book lover’s palette.
“You stop fearing the devil when you're holding his hand...”
3.The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman. Another 3 book collection: The Invisible Library, The Burning Page, and The Masked City. Sprinkled with unique mythology, adventure, and witty characters. An exciting read thats different from anything else I've ever read. There’s even a Sherlock-y type detective and dragons... what could go wrong? “one thing any librarian will tell you: The truth is much stranger than fiction...”
Well, that about wraps it up. Happy Reading!
