idk what has brought on the sudden influx of Amano content but thank you because i adore it

tbh im vibing w it LOL i try to put posts that arent time-sensitive and just pleasant filler kinda content stuff into my queue, which is why you get multiples of the same thing in a row. i do a lot of moomin gif bombs and yoshitomo nara and fashion editorials and stuff so i wanted to switch it up a lil!!

i recently had a lecture for my students where i taught them to how pinpoint specific artist quirks and analyze the art they like so that they can better replicate the styles they gravitate towards, and amano was one of my examples of more texture-and-line wabi sabi stuff. i have a student that goes bananas for this kind of art but didn’t know how to even begin researching it, so it was a fun and fruitful class

I hope this is not to personal and if it is I apologize. It is very cool that you're a teacher! If you don't mind my asking, what age do you teach for and what actually is the class?

lolololololol tbh its not actually that cool that im a teacher. i really genuinely enjoy it and it fulfills me but in this period of my life i’m only settling for teaching because i’m too anxious to try for my actual career goals. but anyhoo, whatever makes me money and keeps me on a ‘normal’ healthy human social schedule!! it’s not at all too personal to talk about, i ramble about this kind of thing all the time without prompting anyhow

i teach digital art and design and specifically entertainment design for teenagers and young adults, and i direct portfolios for application to art colleges. essentially i’m providing extracurricular, highly specialized education for young artists in a hagwon- a special cram academy for art. there’s probably hundreds of these in the LA basin alone. it’s a type of after school academy that runs like a cram in actual Asia, and immigrant tutors just brought that culture over. i went to an art hagwon myself from age 13-17 to learn my standard studio fundamentals and build a portfolio. the one i teach at now is on the higher end side, which is fun!! and it’s really emotionally fulfilling to be able to mentor young asian american kids who are all going through the same life challenges i went through, and being the older, wiser guide that i really could have used when i was their age. and ofc it’s suuuuper satisfying getting teens into competitive, prestigious colleges. like, oh yeah. i’m such a good fuckin teacher. ohohohohohoho

My super-late answer to the Donald Duck thing: You used to be able to find general Disney comics a few places here in the US, but I'm sure it wasn't exactly the same thing and I haven't seen them in 15+ years. But I did have a friend in Finland who said they were very popular there.

Thanks! This is still very interesting. If it’s not a Dutch phenomena, then it’s somewhat European. Which I can understand. While I don’t want to generalize, there’s always been a distinct difference between stories that certain parts of the world like.
