Just a little notice before you read the following thing I have written: I absolutely suck at writing and this is based off the fact that Nikki forgot her fox in the old pogtopia and he is starving to death. So um yeah. Sorry.

Each day that passed felt like a century to him as he waited patiently for his family to return. Mushroom didn't quite understand a lot but he did understand something bad happened. His family gave him food and told him to stay before leaving in a hurry. He did as he was told, waiting and waiting and waiting for them. Each day that passed slowly he got more and more hungry. His tongue and mouth began to get dry and his stomach began to growl. Still, he waited for his family. Mushroom didn't want to disobey them and run off in case they come back for him.
"Mushroom? You're still here???"
Mushroom looked up excitedly at the mention of his name, he was excited that someone remembered him. Someone had come back for him, but it was Wilbur. By himself? Mushroom noticed very quickly that he looked different than he remembered. He was excited nonetheless and tried jumping up on him, but fell right through him. He turned around and looked at Wilbur, tilting his head in confusion. The last time he remembered jumping on Wilbur he didn't fall through him. Mushroom realized something was definitely wrong.
"Yeah. Im sorry buddy. Im not...... here. You must be so hungry."
Wilbur's voice was very soft towards Mushroom and quickly filled with regret. Wilbur felt horrible that he was down here alone, starving to death. No one remembered him and even Wilbur forgot! Wilbur just stumbled upon him as he was looking for old memories and shit.
Mushroom was still excited to finally see someone even if he wasn't able to touch him. He wagged his tail and ran around Wilbur excitedly. Wilbur sighed and sat down on the ground next to Mushroom. Mushroom sat down next to him and looked at him happily. He was just happy he wasn't alone anymore. He finally had company that wasn't spiders or ants!
"It's okay buddy, im here." Wilbur sighed.
Despite being dead and not needing sleep, Wilbur still decided to close his eyes. He rested his head on the gravel wall behind him and gently began humming. Time passed very slowly and Mushroom fell asleep next to Wilbur, feeling safe. He was no longer alone now.
Mushroom woke up to a loud rumbling and a shaking feeling. He sat up and quickly realized that he didn't feel hungry or thirsty anymore. Wilbur still had his eyes closed but seemed to be asleep now. Mushroom jumped on Wilbur's lap, and this time didn't fall through it. He startled Wilbur, waking him up quickly only so he could look down at Mushroom. He wagged his tail at Wilbur and pawed his shirt, excited that he could touch him now.
"Oh buddy...." Wilbur said sadly.
Mushroom didn't know that he was now dead, and thats why he could touch Wilbur. Who was also dead. The only thing Mushroom really understood was that he could now touch Wilbur and he wasn't alone anymore. All his waiting paid off, and now he has his family back. Well.... part of it.
"Alright buddy, I have a lot to show you." Wilbur sighed.
He carefully picked Mushroom up and stood up fully. Wilbur moved and gently put Mushroom on his shoulders. Mushroom laid across his shoulders and rubbed his head on Wilbur's. He didn't care where they went now, but he just didn't want to be alone anymore.
As Wilbur walked up the long flight of stairs Mushroom looked around slowly. It was sad for him to say goodbye to his home but he figured it was time. They finally came back for him. When they reached the surface Mushroom spotted Nikki and jumped off Wilbur's shoulders. He ran over to her and tried jumping on her but jumped right through her.
"No buddy, im sorry. She can't see you."
But Mushroom didn't understand what Wilbur meant. He ran around Nikki excited to see his mom again. She walked past him and back the way Wilbur and Mushroom just came. Mushroom followed her curiously and Wilbur hesitated.
"Mushroom." Wilbur sighed.
Nikki walked down the long stairs with Mushroom following her, happy to see her. Despite the fact that she couldn't see him. Nikki wandered until she found the post that Mushroom was left, tied to. She collapsed to her knees and began crying, seeing his lifeless body. She felt her heartbreak as she realized he waited so long for her. And yet she never returned.
"Im so sorry!" She sobbed hard.
Mushroom was confused on why she was crying though. He was right here? Why is his mom crying when he is right here in front of her? Can't she see him? Doesn't she want him? Why is she ignoring him? Mushroom was extremely confused and tried to cheer his mom up with happy noises that she always liked. She gave no reaction. She couldn't hear or see Mushroom, despite him sitting on his own body in front of her.
"Im sorry." Wilbur said softly.
He gently put his hand on Nikki's shoulder, and looked down at Mushroom. He wagged his tail and tilted his head before trying to lick Nikki's tears. But to him, his mom was untouchable. He only had Wilbur now, and Wilbur vowed to never leave him. So he'd never be alone again.
"Say goodbye to mommy." Wilbur said, sounding choked up.
Mushroom still didn't understand why he had to say goodbye though. He was right here, in front of her. He wasn't going anywhere and he didn't leave from the spot they told him to. So why is she not happy to see he's in the same spot? He did what she said. Shouldn't she be proud of him?
