It was rare to catch Avery unawares, not noticing your approach as they grumbled over the hood of their car, smoke billowing out of the deathtrap as you gave it a wide berth. “Everything alright?” You start, watching them jump at the sound of your voice before shooting you an irate look, their grimace deepening when they recognize you.

“As you can see, everything is perfect.” They snap, sarcasm dripping from their words as they continue to grouch, “What do you even want?” Their words are suspicious, eyeing you with unchecked skepticism.

You couldn’t help but sigh, “You look like you need help,” you reason, earning a scowl so exaggerated you have to stifle a laugh, “Have you called for a tow or anything?” The question gives them pause before they shake their head and turn away from you to stare at their engine.

It felt more like they were avoiding your gaze as they spoke, “Haven’t been able to, my phone is dead.” The shrug they give you is calm as if the fact doesn’t irritate them, but their white-knuckled grip on the hood of their car suggested otherwise.

“Oh,” You say, gnawing idly on your bottom lip as you think of a solution, “If you want I could call one for you? I’m sure Aman could-”

“I don’t need your fucking help, MC, and I certainly don’t need you, either.” They snarl, cutting you off with a glare that could kill. You couldn’t help the frustrated noise that sat in the back of your throat, Avery was always too stubborn to accept help. It was the same in high school, obviously, they haven’t changed much in the years since you’ve seen them.

“Are you so stubborn that you’d rather sit here for hours than get a tow so you can get home faster? Really, Avery?” You snap back, arms thrust up in annoyance, “Refusing help just makes you look like a bigger asshole than you already are.” “Why would I want help from you?” Their words are practically a growl as they look at the smoking vehicle.

“Because no one else is going to fucking offer?” You challenge, arms crossing as you meet their gaze head-on, “So can I?”

There’s a stretch of silence as they stare at you, jaw tense in anger before they exhale heavily through their nose, “Fine,” they relent, sounding as if it physically pained them to accept.

“See, was that so difficult?” You prod, fishing out your phone as their face twists into something bitter.

“Immensely.”

it's been a whole year

Exhaustion eats away at your vision like a hungry vignette filter. No matter what you do, your sight is slowly fading to black. You hold on, pushing off the darkness for as long as possible. You have to push it off. You have to try. Right now, they need you.

Jovy coughs and spits foamy blood into the water covering their legs. Max grimaces but finishes wrapping torn black fabric around their ribcage.

"That's all I can do," they say, tightening the knot with one final tug. Jovy winces. "It's not much, but it'll slow the bleeding at least. Take a minute if you need to but remember we need to get moving as soon as possible. The four of us can't sit still anymore," Max looks around frantically, their pale blue eyes dilated so much that all you can see is black.

"Got it," you reply. "Thanks."

Max nods and stumbles to their feet. Limping off as far as the chain allows them to so you two can have some privacy.

"Jovy-"

You're cut off by their hand caressing your cheek. Their fingers are trembling.

"Jovy, I'm-"

"Shhh," they brush their thumb over your lips. "No, don't. Please, don't."

Guilt sits on your chest, heavy and clawing, but you fall silent at their request. It's the least you can do.

"Corazón..." Jovy whispers. It's the first time you've ever heard them whisper and you're certain it's not intentional. They try to pull you closer but can't. You lean forward instead and wrap your arms around their neck, surrounding Jovy in the gentlest embrace. Their thick, black curls smell of bonfires and sea spray. Tears begin to roll down your cheek, both yours and theirs. "I don't know what I would have done if you weren't here."

"I know what you wouldn't have done," you scoff.

"What? Gotten stabbed?" They laugh once. "Maybe. Maybe not. In all likelihood, I'd have died a long time ago. But that doesn't matter," their voice shakes. "All that matters is that you're safe."

You can't argue anymore. You know you'll never get the last word and you don't want Jovy to waste anymore of their breath. You pull back slightly and place your forehead against theirs, the tips of your noses brushing against one another.

"Thank you."

Jovy laughs once more and summons a weak smirk to their lips. "Anytime."

it is! the white part is actually the wheel rim of a motorcycle too, a play on both the game name and subject in one. i felt very clever.

Aman

While not a frequent drinker, he has been known to get drunk occasionally. Usually when Aman is intoxicated he’s even mushier. That one friend that’s drunkenly, “I love you guys :D”. Emotional but never like in a distraught or angry way. His favorite drink is whiskey on the rocks.

Avery

Does not drink and refuses to partake. If they ever did get drunk though, they would be incredibly emotional, though unlike Aman they are not having a fun time. Choice of drink if they did would probably be like….. a cider.

Sloan

Sloan gets hiccups so often when they are drunk, tends to turn into a blushing and giggling mess while drunk. A lot more chatty than they are usually bc liquid confidence and all that jazz. Favorite drink would be a Washington apple

Mason

Is a flirty drunk. They are a flirt all the time but he is a little more shameless about it when intoxicated. Does not get it often but loves limoncello, drinks it straight.

Carson

You can’t tell he’s drunk. He’s one of those people who while intoxicated seem sober, if maybe a bit more relaxed. He does get a bit flirtier but unlike Mason his is more subtle. Gets kinda touchy with those who allow it. His drink of choice is a whiskey sour

Charlie

She’s a kind of a sad drunk ): She doesn’t drink often, though when she does it makes her more introspective and think a lot about the past, which in turn makes her upset. Doesn’t cry normally but will probably get quieter than she usually is while drunk. Prefers pink wines.

Congrats on the demo release! <3 I just played it and I loved it!

Also, I like how most characters are more or less act negatively towards the MC (at least at the start). And after reading the prologue I have a strong feeling that you have something bad in store for the MC. I know it's no surprise, but it's was an "uh-oh" moment for me. I already feel sorry for them... (even for hostile MC adhguiarhga)

MC will go through some shit, that's not even a spoiler from me, that's a fact. You don't live in town like Deadwood with a serial killer and something menacing in the background on the loose and not end up in trouble :d
