Don't know if this is a controversial opinion or not, but I'm really not a fan of Anis as a popstar and all that it entails.

I was aware of that part of her backstory up to a point and already had my doubts, but seeing her new design and the 3.5 event surrounding it, I am more than convinced that I don't like this direction/addition for the character.

Granted, not having gotten through all the main story stages I am not working with perfect information so you're free to dismiss me as an idiot based on that, that's fair.

But still, I think there's barely any aspects about this that I like. Not the event or storyline itself mind you, I think they're good, I just don't feel they fit well with the Anis the player is presented with and gets to know for most of the game.

The Anis we see for most of the game is sarcastic, cynical and distrusting of people, sure. But she doesn't really want to die or feel like she has a particular reason to be on the surface. She feels more like she ended up being a soldier out of circumstance rather than some elaborate suicide attempt.

I dunno, maybe it was mainly my expectations but I expected her story to be more... personal. Less grandiose or flashy and more... just being ground down by the mundane and everyday shitty treatment Nikkes got, just trying to stay positive while having to constantly fight for her life in a system that didn't really care for or value her.

Instead her backstory is big, romantic. There's enemies and friends and tragedies and I dunno, I never really saw Anis as that type of character in the center of the spotlight. If anything, she was always a bit of the everywoman next to Rapi's unnatural near-protagonist/main partner status

Also this story does kinda just sideline that "Nikke rights" aspect that she has in the Counters squad and I think that's a shame.

Lastly, and this is mostly my personal distaste with the Japanese idol aesthetic they went for her redesign (why couldn't we at least get some more punky/street-style stuff like KDA or other virtual K-Pop bands), I really don't like her new design.

Aside from personal taste, I feel like it really doesn't fit the Counters, especially now that Neon's new design has pushed her closer to Rapi's. Not that Counters had a unifying design philosophy before, but I don't like the new design implications of this change. Before, Anis and Rapi had different but similarly militaristic-esque designs. They looked practical and fit for combat, with some added flair for each to signify their personalities. Neon was a bit of the odd one out with her sailor uniform, but at least that's still in the ball park of military stuff. And it made sense for her design to be a bit different as she joined the squad later and was initially sent as a spy. So the design not really lining up at least fit thematically at the start.

But now with the new redesigns, both Rapi and Neon have a more "anime" style boldness to their design, with a lot of rule of cool (especially Neon), but they're also more unified, sharing black as a secondary color and leaving Anis as the odd one out (since her black base became white). So now Anis is the odd one out of the group, which makes sense when you look at her costume as something for an idol, but makes no sense if she's going to continue with the Counters

I dunno, I'm not feeling it at all. Maybe getting caught up with the story will make it fit better, but I'm not a fan at all personally

Ok so either I missed a giant line of dialogue or Chapter 8 of Nikke is really just that bad.

It's the classic "internal strife in the team" episode and like most of those it feels forced beyond belief.

Like, what do you mean Anis being suspicious of Shifty makes Neon mad? Why? She even specifically involved you in the discussion about Shifty being possibly a danger, you were never excluded WHY ARE YOU MAD?????
