Bully | Nikolas Koll One-Shot
The sound of the school bell ringing turned the whole school into chaos. Everyone was flooding out of classrooms and into the hallways, which was a normal occurrence at the end of the day. Locker doors were being slammed shut as people gathered their things to leave for the day. I stopped by my locker and put all of the books I needed into my backpack.
Lucky for me, my locker was in a secluded spot. I didn't have to deal with all the chaos that was happening down other hallways. Especially since my locker was near a staircase that is rarely used if at all really. "Leave me alone!" I heard a boy's voice say loudly followed by the sound of running footsteps. Then I heard a sickening slam against the floor. 'What the hell is going on?' I thought.
I put my backpack straps on my shoulders before I closed my locked and investigated what all the noise was about. Around the corner I saw a couple of boys ganging up on one boy I knew, because he's in a couple of my classes. He was sitting on the floor with his back propped up on the wall behind him. "You're a freak! No one likes you, and no one ever will!" One of the bullies yelled.
My insides hurt when I saw blood trickling from his nose and tears welling up in his big innocent eyes. "Hey! Leave him alone!" I yelled as I hurried towards the two boys who were towering over Nikolas. "Or what?" The bully that was doing all the talking said. "Or I'll kick your ass." I said with a dead serious look. I was nervous, but I couldn't just stand there and watch someone get bullied. Especially since Nikolas always keeps to himself.
Both boys started walking towards me and I used my backpack to my advantage; it was filled with a lot of thick books. So when I swung the bag I aimed for the lead bully's head. "Fuck!" He yelled as he hit the ground, holding his head. His friend helped him up off of the floor and they ran off down the hallway away from me.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked Nikolas curiously as I sat down next to him. He shrugged as he wiped the blood from his nose on his jacket sleeve. I got into my backpack and grabbed the portable box of tissues I always have with me. "Here." I said as I handed him a couple of tissues. He took them and wiped the rest of the blood off of him.
"Thank you for helping me. Most people just walk by when they see me getting beaten up." He said with a grateful look in his eyes. "Don't mention it. I'm just glad you're not hurt anymore than you are." I said. We sat there in comfortable silence. All the usual end of day noise was muted due to the spot we were in at the moment. I watched him and suddenly noticed how cute he was.
"What's your name?" He asked me curiously. "Y/n." I replied. "I'm Nikolas." He replied. "I know. You're in a couple of my classes." I said with a small smile. "I thought you looked familiar." He said. After a few more seconds I helped him up off of the floor and I put my backpack back on. We walked downstairs and I kept a close eye on him. I didn't want him falling down the stairs or anything even though he seemed balanced.
When we got outside I spotted my mom waiting on me in her car to take me home. Deep down I wanted to walk him home to make sure no one else hurt him, but I knew I couldn't. So we said out goodbyes and I got into my mom's vehicle. All evening I thought about Nikolas and hoped he was okay, which made it hard to focus on my homework.
The next day I walked into my first period class and took a seat in my usual desk. A few moments passed before others started coming in and taking their seats. "Can I sit next to you?" A familiar voice asked. When I looked up I saw Nikolas standing there looking shy and cute. "Sure." I replied. He sat down at the desk next to me and placed his books in front of him. When we made eye contact he gave me a little smile that made me smile back.
I might not know much about him, but I hoped he knew I was willing to be his friend. I knew people would start bullying me since I defended him, but I didn't care. He seems like he really needs someone in his life who really cares about him. Deep down I think I really need him too.
