"Heartachingly-sweet goodbye." 'The Sun Is Also A Star' is a film directed by Ry Russo-Young and is based on the novel of the same name written by Nikola Yoon. So basically, the film followed the plot of the novel with some changes on the timeline and sequence of events in the book. But the majority of the important events in the book are kept intact in the film which I really appreciate. I'm not really into watching films other than the book adaptations I've read and I must say that this film adaptation gave justice to the best selling book of Nikola Yoon. I opt not to watch book-film adaptation frequently because I get too disappointed with the major changes some directors made to the plot up to the point of making the film as a stand-alone craft rather than honoring the book where it's based from. Though this is fairly understandable because you can't really compressed a whole book into a 2 hour film but it's still too much for me to take when the authenticity of the story is being dismantled in the film. But I must give credits to Ry Russo-Young for this wonderful film adaptation for creating a craft that is closely-related to the book giving life and realness to the characters and at the same time giving an authentic vibe of setting picking beautiful places in New York City. On the other hand, the advantage of reading the book first before watching the film is that it gives you sense of wholeness when watching. You know the back story of all the scenes. In short, you have a better understanding of what is happening to the film. Henceforth, the advantage of watching the film after reading the book is that it gives you a different perspective and a better understanding and explanation of grayish areas that you haven't thought in the book.
