Video by @amivitale. Happy #WorldElephantDay! It was a privilege to be able to tell the heartwarming story of Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e), the first indigenous-owned and run elephant sanctuary in all of Africa. It's so easy to forget all the amazing things happening in the world and in this pocket of northern Kenya, without fanfare, nothing less than a miracle is occurring. It is the beginnings of a transformation in the way Samburus relate to wild animals they have long feared. This oasis where orphans grow up, learning to be wild so that one day they can rejoin their herds, is as much about the people as it is about elephants. Please support Reteti (@r.e.s.c.u.e) today on World Elephant Day and consider donating or following them and their incredible work through their website and social media. The sanctuary is helping to change the lives of the people in the community as well as the animals under their care. Your support will help these iconic animals and the communities that care for them — will you join them?
