KD Line por James House Por Flickr: UP/Metra train 647 takes headroom on the former C&NW's KD Line at Harvard, IL, before turning back to Chicago as train 672. This line once extended from Kenosha to Rockford, and with the exception of short portions at Kenosha, Harvard, and Rockford, has been largely abandoned. At Harvard, about three miles of the line is still in place and is used by scoots taking headroom to either access the layover yard, or as seen here, turn back to Chicago. The remaining mileage west of Harvard is operated by shortline Chicago-Chemung Railroad to serve a grain elevator located at the end of the line.
