So I can’t vouch for his overall allyship (I am always gunshy about researching things like that for fear of what I’ll find), but an amazing ally story about Chic’s Nile Rodgers: When Chic was producing an album by Diana Ross (the amazing “Diana”), Nile went to his first drag show and saw drag queens playing the part of Diana. So he decided he would write a song perfect for them to use at future shows and wrote “I’m Coming Out.” Ross had no idea what “coming out” meant in the gay community when she sang it, and she was furious with Rodgers when she found out (hence why she is not in this picture). But, too late. The song is an LGBT staple, possibly even cliché. So thanks Nile!
