The Old Guard Headcanons

Nile has a no-kill rule. The gang thinks it’s adorable in the beginning, and that she’ll just grow out of it. But as the centuries go by and Nile still asks “are we sure they deserve to die?” and asks for a hug after she kills someone.

Unless someone could hurt Andy, and then it’s on.

Andy hates how overprotective the gang becomes of her. She’s used to being the leader of the group, but suddenly she has to stay back. Fuck you. 

She learns to let others protect her soon enough. 

Despite the fact that Booker was banished, he and Nile still have a text relationship. Booker parents her and Nile keeps him from drinking. It’s nice. 

Nile watches the news a lot. She can’t fight along with her army friends, but she can watch the news to catch up on them. She stops doing it after the first century. 

They say “I love you” to each other before fights Andy might not survive.  

At the beginning the only one who likes James is Nile. All the rest roll their eyes whenever he’s mentioned but Nile asks him “how are you” and shakes his hand and smiles at him and thanks him. The rest of them warm up to him eventually, because no one can say no to Nile. 

Nicky and Joe occasionally go on expensive luxury hotel getaways. they do nothing but read and feed each other fruit. 

When Quynh comes back, she’s a little bit crazy, and tries to hurt the group. Andy, who has the most to risk, doesn’t let that stop her. She just walks up to Quynh and hugs her, tells her she loves her and kisses the corner of her mouth. Quynh breaks down and cries.  

Andy and Quynh spend the last of their days together. They sometimes go on murderous adventures but Andy mostly just catch Quynh up on everything she missed or reminisce about the good old days.  

Andy dies of old age. That’s it, that’s the headcanon. 

Even though Nile knew Andy the least time, it takes her the most time to get over Andy’s death. All the others knew the day would come one day, but Nile? Nile didn’t. Nile just got to know Andy and now she is gone, and she can’t get over it. 

She stops having dreams about Andy two years later, but she’ll forever remember what Andy did for her and what she did for Andy. 

After Andy dies, for a while, it’s just Nile, Quynh, Nicky and Joe. 

Needless to say, it’s a nightmare. It’s either “Nile, what’s an internet?” or “this reminds me of when we killed each other at Rome. I’ll write a poem about it!” 

Nile totally loves hearing about history from her found family. Yeah, she loves hearing about how violent the crusaders were over and over and how amazing the Mongolian wars were. And if she doesn’t really love it, then she’s lying. 

She’s lying. It was cool at first but it got old very quickly. 

Though, if Nile is honest, she doesn’t hate it that much. It’s nice that she doesn’t feel alone. 

Nile goes to her friends’ funeral, her family’s funeral, everyone she-heard-who-died-and-she-knew-them funeral. Her fellow immortals tell her she’s torturing herself, but Niles goes anyway. Only Booker understands (although he disapproves). 

Nile adopts stray kittens and puppies. Everyone tells her not to get attached, but screw them. They’re adorable, she’ll cuddle as many cute animals as she wants. 

When a new immortal is made, Nile absolutely mentors her. She might be a little over eager, but she crushes it. 

….With Nicky, Joe and Booker’s help. 

My ultimate headcanon though? The whole gang loves Nile almost as much as I do.

Guys, I also like Nile. She’s just...so competent? And goes “I’m gonna walk in this highly secured building, fight everyone until I get my friends back.” And she cares? She cares so much, about the people she encountered, her family, her new friends, even booker and Copley. And Quynh.

It’s just, she’s this highly trained very competent badass soldier and she’s strong and she cares.
