The hieroglyphics on his jacket translate to “Priest,” and the hieroglyphics surrounding him translate to “Ma’at is justice as justice is Ma’at.”
Nile!Sans’s name, when written/said in Egyptian Hieroglyphics is “End the Darkness” written below:
His design is based off of Ma’at, the goddess of truth, justice, and order. Ma’at’s feather would be weighed against the hearts of dead humans. If they lied, the heart would sink and weigh more than the Feather of Truth.
Sans is the Priest of Ma’at and is assigned to judging everyone’s souls on the scale. He’s YET to see someone’s soul sink to the floor.
Isis wings, which Sans wears, are used by dancers (and they are sometimes luminescent!!). Before he was allowed to take the job, he had to take a fight-dancing course with Asgore.
Ironically, Ma’at was seen at the “idea being” for humans and a role model of what to be. She is the one keeping the world in balance when all else fails.
I’ll be posting some old art for this (my) AU, Niletale, later too probably
