hi there! i'd love a rundown on the symbolism in your samsa drawings!
I've been working for hours on this one, so I'm not going to shut up, but also take in mind I'm not the best at explaining stuff, so be aware of grammatical and orthographic errors lol So first off, I went with the view of "The Samsa cards are what Mafumom sees N25 like" I think almost everyone in the fandom is fond of this one (maybe it's canon, idk I just got here). Kanade's card is the most obvious one so that was easy, I wanted to make her eerie(I don't think it translated very well, I should have made her eyes emptier or smt)She is the one hugging Mafuyu the closest, Kanade is on front of Mafuyu (being on her lap and all that, tbh that's the pose I struggled with the most, I really was trying to find a way to make Kanade "taller"), looking directly at the audience(Mafumom).
As for Ena, Mafumom only knows her thanks to the phone call, in which she puts, as I like to call it, the nepo baby persona, so she can get on Mafumom's good side. Mafumom instantly jumped to the conclusion that she was also on the music group, but fortunately, Ena made the play of her life and diverged that shot. That's why I drew Ena as the only one smiling, and also literally drawing a smile on Mafuyu's face (I think I should have made it more exaggerate for it to be more noticed, it also blurred out with the purple overlay on top, ups). She is the one keeping up appearances to Mafumom, trying to be on her good side so she can be close with Mafuyu without raising too much suspicion. Contrary to Kanade she is on the back of the picture (Ena is not and immediate danger like her) shielding Mafuyu from behind, paintbrush in hand to protect both of them (Using her father and art as an excuse for Mafuyu's sake)
Mizuki is the only one that is never mention directly to Mafumom (That I know of, but taking into account Kanade's side story in her Samsa card, I think that's the case) So Mafumom doesn't even know she exists lol, so she can't have a mental image of her, for better or for worse. But her presence is noticed by how she influenced Mafuyu (she was the first to notice Mafumom is not the best, and also the whole "Running away is not that bad") so even if Mafumom doesn't know who she is, she can't deny her presence(idk if that makes sense written like that, you get the idea) that's why she is also in the front like Kanade, but she is not showing herself fully (Also I really like drawing Mizuki's back when she is not being sincere, probably not the right word, it's something I also did in my April fool's art). She is the only one not touching Mafuyu directly, Mafuyu is finally the one moving (reading the drawing left to right, it's like the events in game, first Kanade is mention, then Ena has the call and finally Mizuki tells Mafuyu it's okay to run away) hanging onto what Mizuki said to her to finally make her final move. For Mafuyu I wanted to draw her helpless, but also relaxed (On the first drafts I actually drew her with a blush, but that could have been too obvious, so I just put a little bit of blush with the color). Kinda wanted to give her that doll vibe her mother probably sees her like, for her mother seeing her so physically close to other girls could be seen as something weird and dangerous, but to Mafuyu being close to Niigo is the closest to peace she has ever experienced
On the first ever draft I only took Mafumom's pov into account, I felt something was wrong, so I quickly changed my view on it, so now it's kinda double-sided? It would be more precise to say that at a first glance and without knowledge of proseka you would really think the same as Mafumom, unreliable narrator in a drawing(I'm reaching even in my own interpretation of my own drawing lmao) I don't really have a justification for each of the backgrounds more than "I'm too lazy to replicate each card's background, so I just drew the vibe for them lol" and trying to make them "childish"(Mostly seen in Ena's background) So yeah that's all, I think, I've been drawing this since 3pm and my eyes hurt A LOT, sorry if the analysis is all over the place, I really just go with the flow while drawing sometimes, I really tried to get some thoughts down for this one which is not something I write down normally
A big mfen hc of mine is that mafuyu thinks ena's angry face is cute because literally why else would she be ragebaiting her so much
