5) What’s your favorite thing to draw?
Cute girls!!
12) Is it okay for people to ask you about your process?
Yeah! Here it is:
Sketch the drawing
with the sketch set to "multiply" and low opacity, draw the different colors underneath. I work better with adding and subtracting from colored blobs than I do with drawing lineart and filling it in. Every color/section of the body will have it's own layer.
If some parts were too vague in the sketch (usually hands) I'll add in a more detailed sketch before coloring that part
Once colors are all done, I add in lines in places where I feel contrast is low, or readability is unclear.
Add in any other details I want at this stage, and I'm done!
Here's a quick timelapse of that time I drew marcille, it shows the basics of what I mean!
15) How long does an average piece take you to complete?
That one's answered here!
19) What is the most difficult thing for you to draw?
Hmm, the chin, at low angles. It's not that I can't draw it, I can draw it easily if this was realism, but I have difficulty simplifying it into my art style. So you'll see that the times I do draw where you're looking up at someone from a low angle, I end up going outside my art style. Like I feel like I need to do slightly more realistic look in order to facilitate certain angles.
I've seen how other artists do this in anime and manga with similar styles, but I've failed to see a solution I like so far. (once you start looking for it you see a lot of long chins)
I feel like I did it alright, but you can also see how both of these ended up being in a more detailed style than my usual. So I'm still trying to figure out how to simplify it well in a way that works with my style.
A good example of how it's often done in anime is:
Tsukasa from .hack//sign See how his head isn't angled upwards? Instead his whole face is just shifted up. His chin is so long as a result.
27) For digital artists: how many layers does a typical piece require?
I run out of layers on procreate constantly. Usually when working on things procreate will tell me I can't make anymore layers.
It's because I layer every color! That drawing of Marcille had 38 layers! 7 of those layers were just here eyes. I am not economical when it comes to layers!
