Day 8 - great hair day
11am: S heads off to the beach and J heads off to get her hair done. J leaves as a brunette.
5 hours later, S tires of the beach and goes back to the hotel room. No sign of J.
An hour later, J returns. She’s now a zebra (a lot of light highlights on darker hair). S said he expected to see a zebra when we get to Africa, but not here in Barbados. All joking aside, this is J’s fourth attempt to get blonde highlights since we were locked down in March. This one finally worked and is very close to what J had in mind. If anyone wants their hair done in Barbados, you should check out the lovely and highly talented Nina Thomas. She works at the Coral Reef, Sandy Lane and has a salon at the Lime Grove shopping centre.
Before heading out to dinner, we once again had a drink at the hotel bar. Our server tonight was named St. Elmo. He joked that everyone thinks he’s named after the 1980s Brat Pack movie, but S guessed that he was actually named after the patron saint of sailors. We then decided to google St. Elmo. It’s a pretty gory story involving many creative means of torture. Not one for the kids.
Dinner was at the Horny Ram. This is owned by the same people who own the Seacat. We are becoming their best customers. They’re definitely going to miss us when we leave Barbados. The highlight of the meal for S was a rare burger, which you cannot get in England, and the coleslaw was amazing. J had her heart set on ordering the ‘full monty’ burger, which comes with pineapple rings, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and grilled mushrooms, but as soon as she heard that the catch of the day was grouper, all thoughts of the full monty burger disappeared. As it turns out, grouper is J’s favourite fish, and not normally easy to find. Anybody coming to Barbados, we can recommend the Horny Ram.
