#ninburger serves

Earlier this year @nin-burger organised a comics redraw. I was new to drawing at the time and wasn't sure about joining in, but I ended up doing three whole pages! I learnt a lot in the process.

The fighting page was the most complicated and took me 60+ hours, including testing out a whole bunch of ideas and making decisions about it. Most of it is paint pen and watercolour pencils, but the faces at the bottom and the greys at the top are all acrylics. I'm happy with the outcome. Shout-out to @ne-ono who suggested doing the top figures in b+w ^_^

The page with them as kids took me more like 20 hours, which is still a hefty investment, but it's a lot simpler. I really wanted to do one of the pages with water and forest in the background. It's all paint pen and watercolour pencils, because I like those outcomes and it's easier than mixing acrylic colours. I ended up writing the text boxes separately and gluing them on, haha. I love giving these kids different styles of speech bubble. I'm about 90% happy with the whole thing. The water came out great!

I really didn't spend that long on the stone-skipping page. I'm about 80% happy with it - if I were doing it again I know exactly what I'd do differently. Again it's all in paint pen and watercolour pencils. I think in some ways water is easier in traditional media than digital.

So we originally intended that no artist would do two pages together, but people ended up dropping out and changing, and I took over this one without realising it comes straight after the fight scene. Hopefully the contrast is strong enough :)

Card Spotlight: Strength

Strength symbolises inner strength, courage, persuasion, influence, and compassion. The Strength card represents tapping into your higher self to overcome a challenge, and confronting, accepting and taming hidden fears.

Our Strength is Tsunade, who overcame her own greatest fear and became the leader of Konoha. As well as her bodily strength, the compassion and patience Tsunade shows with her own self as well as others is extremely appropriate for the card. Tsunade is pictured having tapped into the power usually hidden in her Strength of a Hundred seal to carry her former self, who was traumatised by loss; in a sense, she will always carry that history with her.

Tsunade as Strength was designed and created by @richard189381184, who said: "To be honest, I was totally clueless about what I was going to do at first. We discussed some ideas in the server and I ran with them. The blood rain symbolizes her phobia of blood, and the light streaming through the clouds is representative of her eventually facing that fear. She's carrying her younger self from the night of Dan's death- hence the necklace. I wanted to symbolize her saving herself, sort of reassuring that things do get better, and her willingness to try and pull herself out of the pit she fell into for a while. She became stronger in more ways than just physical."
