A zine by me.
KN95 (or higher) rated, well-fitted respirator masks are revolutionary.
+ Anti-ICE/anti fascist? Wear a mask. The unmitigated spread of disease is killing and disabling people being violently and wrongfully detained by ICE. Every break in the chain of transmission of illness saves lives.
The covid conscious crowd are apparently also going around spreading misinformation that there's no vaccines for HIV?
What the fuck do you think Apretude is? Or are you such a shut-in that you've never met anyone on PrEP?
"It's only temporary protection" no shit, so are the COVID vaccines. Or the tetanus vaccine for that matter. They're still vaccines.
You people bandy on about how you're the "evidence based" ones, but you don't know basic day 1 shit about HIV.
All while using the pink triangle. Go fuck yourself.
I get you're probably just looking for people to be mad at on the internet or whatever, but those pre-exposure prophylactic pharmaceuticals for HIV are not in fact vaccines. Not sure if that actually matters to you or something. A vaccine trains your immune system to better and less-harmfully-to-you respond to a virus for months and months and minths, PrEP and similar drugs inhibit viral replication for several days to a couple weeks. Completely different mechanisms. Okay. Back to your straw man if you want.
So I thought y'all would like this too This great white comes to the jersey shore every year and this year they named her and have been tracking her hella so this is Mary Lee and she decided to show herself under this rainbow for pride month A true gay icon
#This is the representation I’ve been looking for
In Copenhagen you can visit The Round Tower. It used to be an astronomical observatory until light pollution and the vibrations from increased traffic in the streets made it useless for its original purpose.
Today it’s mostly famous for what it looks like on the inside.
It has an equestrian staircase though it’s so smooth it’s really just a gentle slope more than a staircase. It was build like that so our lazy bum king could ride his horse all the way to the top (king not in photo)
And naturally people have also driven cars up the tower
And held a bike race
For a while it was just sort of abandoned by the authorities and became a spiraling marketplace
But today it has been restored and become a tourist spot as well as a popular destination for school trips. And yes, you can still watch the cosmos at the top.

i want to take the time to talk about a series of disabilities that no one takes seriously or even recognizes as a disability, which is food intolerances, and allergies. if a person can get sick if they eat the wrong foods, they are disabled, as this illness will make them unable to function all because they ate the wrong food. it's not okay to guilt someone for seeking foods that won't injure them.
in 2022, i began to lose my ability to digest land meats (pork, chicken, cow, etc.), animal milks, and eggs. it started slowly but quickly progressed to every type of land meat. i am only able to digest seafood, plants, nuts, seeds safely without becoming horribly sick. i tried to buy cow's milk because it is cheaper recently and became so ill it was genuinely traumatic. i have never been that sick in my life before. i cannot safely ingest cow's milk, the cheaper option, because it will injure me for several days or even weeks at a time. this happens to me with all land meats as well.
i cannot eat eggs. i cannot fried rice that has egg, i cannot eat most sauces like mayo or ranch dressing because of their high egg content. i cannot eat anything dressed in mayo as a sauce. anything that is baked or brushed or washed with egg is a risk. my digestive system really hates eggs in particular and they are inescapable.
people who can't digest or process lactose, gluten, meats, seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds, beans, fiber, certain fats, proteins or sugars don't have their needs considered very often, nor taken seriously, especially when that person is poor. people with digestive issues need to be able to eat foods that don't hurt us- it's not our faults that alternative milks, breads, pizzas, snacks, sauces, dips, spreads, meats and more are significantly more expensive. we still need to be able to eat foods that don't harm us regardless of how much money we make.
caffeine, too. caffeine is a common trigger for a lot of neurological conditions, like migraine and Meniere's, and it's also a common problem for heart strains. yet caffeine is an increasingly common additive in drinks ("refreshers" my beloathed, not just coffee and sodas anymore) as well as foods (candy, etc) and is often not labeled with either "contains caffeine" or the quantity of caffeine present.
this complaint brought to you by having to walk into a store the other day and ask an employee whether any of the drinks available were caffeine-free, and having them not know and have to carefully check the ingredients label for common caffeinated products.
everyone deserves to be able to eat and drink safely, without paying consequences later on down the line. food and drink are a common center of social activity! making sure everyone has palatable, tasty options that they can partake in safely is a basic accessibility issue. so is making sure that everyone knows what kinds of things are in the foods available, so that informed decisions about what to consume are possible.
Corn. In America (apologies for the US-centrism in the ensuing post, but it's the hellscape I have the misfortune of living in), corn and its derivatives will make fun cameo appearances in bread, yogurt, salad dressing, ice cream, diced ham, shredded cheese, chocolate milk, powdered sugar, table salt, the wax they put on apples, and about 95% of all pills ranging from over-the-counter ibuprofen to lifesaving prescription medications. If my corn allergy was life-threatening, I probably would not be alive. But instead, I'm just permanently chronically ill. And I have to pay extra for name-brand Zyrtec — just to not be allergic to my own allergy medication.
Just like the caffeine situation, the corn labeling is absolute shit. "Modified food starch," or as lots of pills say, plain old "starch," could be corn starch. But it could also be potato starch — which is a lifesaver for me, but fucks over people with potato allergies instead. Yet neither of us get to be told. We have to avoid it all out of caution. Xanthan gum is another potential corn derivative, but it can come from other allergy-prone plants too, and it's never clarified.
But at least there's been legislation introduced in Congress to require clearer labeling of allergens in medications, right? Just kidding. That's only for the "main nine" allergens plus gluten. Of which corn is not one in America, despite the country's fetish for it. So we should just petition for corn to be added to the main allergen list, right? Absolutely not. There's actually nothing that terrifies me more. When sesame was added to the list in the US in 2023, companies just added it to all their products, to save money on cleaning equipment. If this happened to corn too, I genuinely don't know what I would do.
And in the grand scheme of things, I'm lucky among people with corn allergies. Here's an article about the horror stories from people with more severe sensitivities than mine. And yet, my food needs are so niche and inflexible that I can't travel, for pleasure or work — and just like people with caffeine sensitivities, I'm incredibly isolated from any food-based social activities. If this isn't a disability, how the hell is it so disabling?
Despite having significant dietary limitations I actually never considered this before
Once again shouting into the void that just because you think it would be physically easy for you to use a powerchair doesn’t mean that it’s easy for everyone.
The kind of disabilities that make you reliant on a powerchair often make sitting up at all very difficult, and affect movement to the point where using a joystick can be physically tiring.
And then there’s the cognitive load of using a powerchair, especially in public. I have to be aware of my surroundings to a degree that non disabled people often can’t understand. I’m watching pavement widths, where dropped curbs are likely to be, and how steep the camber is. I’m seeing if there are any bicycles, signs vegetation or other obstacles blocking the path in the next 100m (because the pavement is too narrow to turn round on if I miss something). I’m looking out for mobility aid users or people with pushchairs coming the other way because the path isn’t wide enough for both of us.
And in a crowd I’m paying attention to who is distracted by their phone, who is window shopping and might absent minded step backwards into me, who is likely to do something unpredictable, who has a young child or a dog I need to be aware of.
And for me I’m doing all of that without being able to move my head and look round easily. It’s exhausting.
A quick guide for trans people who are using/ forced to use the disabled toilet due to transphobic bullshit in the UK when you wouldn’t otherwise need to do so. From a transgender wheelchair user who has given this topic a lot of thought.
Remember you are a guest in this space. I don’t know a single person who would rather you shit yourself or get assaulted than use the disabled toilet, but please remember that these toilets are built and designed for disabled people after a huge amount of campaigning and activism.
Don’t touch or move things you don’t need to. If you’re not familiar with how things work or why they are where they are just leave it be. The position of a bin might not mean anything to you but it could be really important to a wheelchair user who needs to change their tampon. Don’t touch things like grab rails either – while they’re fairly tough and you’re unlikely to cause any damage it’s not impossible and if you don’t touch it, you can’t break it.
Related, but important enough to have its own point: please don’t touch the red cord. Do not tie it up, do not wrap it around anything, don’t tuck it behind a bin. Don’t touch it (The only exception to this is to untie a cord that’s been tied up) If the cord doesn’t fall freely to the floor it could prevent a disabled person calling for help in an emergency. If you’re worried about accidentally pulling it there’s almost always at least one reset button in there with you. Press that and it cancels the alarm.
If possible allow other people waiting to go first. A lot of disabilities, both visible and less apparent, can cause problems with incontinence, urgency or pain that make it difficult for someone to wait to use the toilet. If there’s someone else in the queue and you are able to do so, offering to let them go first might really help them out.
If you want to get a radar key, get it from disability rights UK or give a small donation to a disability charity (again only if you’re able to). I’ve seen a couple of trans orgs giving away free radar keys and it’s unclear how they are being sourced. Knockoffs are common but only “real” RADAR keys are from Disability Rights UK and any profits help fund their charity work. Bear in mind that most disabled people also have to pay for these keys which are about £5. (Disability Rights UK say their keys are to be sold to disabled people or organisations only, this is a legal thing they have to say about VAT relief. There is no real way of following up how disabled someone who buys a radar key is because you don’t need to claim any benefits to be eligible for VAT relief and keys are a low value item that isn’t worth anyone looking into when things like adapted cars exist. Be gay, do crime, support disabled people having rights.)
Know the difference between a standard accessible toilet and a changing places toilet. Don’t use a changing places toilet if there is any other safe option. These have a different symbol and are bigger and fitted with extra equipment for severely disabled people and our carers. That equipment is more sensitive than anything you’ll find in a standard accessible toilet so if you do find yourself in one touch nothing. Especially don’t move the hoist (lifting equipment) as it can cause it to run out of power and make the whole space functionally useless if it’s not in the right space on the track. (To be fair this is an unlikely scenario as there aren’t that many of these toilets, but just in case)
Don’t suggest renaming accessible toilets. They’re primarily there for disabled people who can’t use an alternative, and disabled people will be looking for an accessible toilet. For most spaces you can look for an accessible toilet and have a good chance of finding a gender neutral space, but that doesn’t work the other way around. Calling it an “inclusive toilet” or “gender neutral toilet” tells me absolutely nothing about whether my wheelchair will fit.

hello fellow artists. google has fallen. pinterest/duckduckgo AI filters don't work. do not despair; here is a list i made of places to find reference images without having to sift through piles of worthless garbage. (for future editing convenience i am just linking my blog post on dreamwidth.)
✨ good places to find art reference that are not full of AI trash 🌈
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been despairing as it is so hard now to find references and photos of succulents and other things for my designs!! T_T
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
