Ive been a dormant fan of fullmetal alchemist for 9 years now. I think ive done at least 4 full watch throughs of brotherhood and have consumed the entire manga twice, as well as 03 and all the live actions and 4komas and stuff.

How the fuck am i just now finding out, due to a friend's intervention, that Truth was inside Alphonse's body and that's why the "body" could talk while separated from Al's soul???

I never once questioned why it could speak or think or any of that. Every time it said "don't you want to come back to me?", the idea that Truth was saying it never crossed my mind. But it makes sense-- Ed's arm and leg were part of Truth's body and it always had them on display whenever Ed talked to it, so why would Al's entire body be any different??

When you touch an original story again that has been giving you grief every single day of their 9 year existence, even though you would kill for the leads, and you realise that it might be because they were never meant to be lovesick descendants of Greek Mythology, but love sick witches instead.

And now you're just sitting there like-

On top of all of its list of problems, Dragon Age Veilguard does a horrible job of making that first fatal decision feel like a tough one. (Spoilers below)

You get back with Davrin and are immediately stopped by everyone saying that both Minrathous and Treviso are being attacked. If your Rook is from neither location, the person whose argument is far more sound is Lucanis’. He points out how this city is defenseless, it is almost all water so if the Blight got there it would be catastrophic near immediately, and it would fall 100% without your aid.

Neve’s argument is that the Shadow Dragons will do their best to hold it all off and fight, but that if they fall the Venatori will seize control. Two reasons this argument is a bad one to make you want to save Minrathous over Treviso. The first being she immediately points out that there is something of a fighting force willing and able to do more than just watch. Yes, Treviso has the Crows but I’m talking about the arguments that are presented to Rook. Her first point to make is to admit there’s people who are willing and able to fight back. If you chose a shadow dragon rook, her argument only adds repeatedly that this is your home therefore you should want to save it more. The second issue with this argument is around the Venatori itself.

Prior to Veilguard, we watch during Inqusition as the Venatori are created and as they gain more and more hold on tevinter. We learn about their rise and subsequent successful grabs at power back home from Dorian, we see it first hand in Magisters who stand against us. There is never a point in inquisition where we are told that the Venatori lost ANY ground on power. To the point that I - and I’m guessing some others too - came into this game under the assumption Tevinter was already fully in the pocket of the Venatori.

Like…Tevinter…the city known for slavery and mages who constantly dabble in blood magic in the streets and are all looking for more power. That city who is painted as one in every game and book as a seat of corruption isn’t already in the pocket of the Venatori? On top of this, we’re presented early on with how political forces in Minrathous are indeed Venatori. And they are freeing fellow Venatori from being held responsible.

So we hit this pivotal choice: save the city that is suddenly being held in an occupation by a foreign force with no standing army of their own, with a city built of canals and waterways and none to aid them if it falls OR the city we have already known and seen to be held by Venatori power behind the scenes?

Now to make the decision even dumber - let’s look at how both factions treat rook. Rook is immediately treated as an outside possible threat by a member of the shadow dragons regardless of origin. In fact, if rook was also a shadow dragon it’s almost worse treatment (ie blaming rook for everything wrong, stating their mistrust asap). (Side note yeah yeah I’m sure the guy is a traitor or something but again that’s not the argument I’m making here).

Meanwhile when you go to Treviso, you’re welcomed immediately. Everyone is chill with Rook and even offer aid as soon as possible. Even the traitor isn’t rude to us in this faction they’re calm. Even if you choose a Crow Rook they’re still friendly. They tease you about your past sure but never in the way the ‘look how you ruin everything and you’re so horrible and bad luck go away’ shadow dragons like to.

So even if you go into this decision basing your choice not on Neve and Lucanis’ arguments but solely on treatment of your Rook like naturally you swing more towards Treviso.

My overall point here is this game does a really bad job at a lot of stuff. One of the things it did bad at was making me feel any kind of pressure in this decision. Because I felt none. It was a knee jerk “this is the right call” reaction. It should’ve had hesitation. It should have made me feel bad but I didn’t.
