‘ it’s not that simple. ’    /    WHAT   he   had  asked   of   her   RISKED   her   very    life.   44   below   a   SECRET   club   that   the   bat      NORMALLY      couldn’t   gain   access  to.   NO,   it   wasn’t   PENGUIN    that   he   was   UNSURE  of,   HELL   !   no   one   laid   a   hand   on   the   girls.   it   was    COLSON  ,    the   man    who   became      UNHINGED       at   the   sight   of   DROPS.    men,   it   seemed   had    to   ESCAPE   to   such   a   place,   the   REALITY  OF  IT  ALL   TOO  MUCH.   what   a   fucking   joke  !   no   one   HELD   a   gun   to   COLSON’S   head   and   MADE   him   become   GOTHAM’S   DA.    this   was   something   that   he   did      ALL      by   himself,     and   it   was     a   story    that    the   bat   had   heard    too   many  times   before.   MEN   who  had       POWER,     INFLUENCE      -    threw  it  all   away    for   GREED.   the   chance   to   make  a   difference   GONE   as    they  accepted   bribes.    though   there   is   a   GREAT   flaw   to  thinking,    a    TIE   in   that   no   one   yet   knows.    ‘   there’s   gotta   be   a   better   way  ’  he   has   her   on   the   BAT   LENS.

he  almost  didn’t  recognize  her ,    pulling  himself  down  the  first  aisle  that  caught  his  eye .    his  gaze  peers  over  the  stacks  of  books  through  tinted  lenses ,     it  was  easy  to  make  mistakes ,    sleep  came  very  little ,   more  than  usual .    upon  seeing  selina  there  came  a  warm  hum  inside  of  his  head ,   almost  in  disbelief  that  she  had  slipped  underneath  his  radar  so  well  (   she  truly  did  not  wish  to  be  found !   )   then  again ,   the  past  eight  months  had  been  a  blur  ;     his  time  became  stretched  after  the  flood ,   his  city  needing  him  more  than  ever ,    bruce  wayne  finally  emerging  from   the  shadows .   yet  he  forgets ,   she  does  not  know  HIM    --    no ,  she  knows  his  real - self ,    the  part  of  him  that  he’s  hiding  now ,    residing  within  him  until  dusk  settles  on  the  skyscrapers  of  gotham .

he  exhales ,  glasses  being  placed  in  his  back  pocket ,   “   excuse  me   @nineprowls. . .  “   finally  he  approaches ,   his  tone  was  even ,   bruce’s  eyes  softening  when  she  envelops  his  gaze .    it  was  like  meeting  selina  again  for  the  first  time ,      “ i  need  help  finding   . . .    a  book . “

           perhaps  you  should  not  be  wandering  the  streets  of  gotham  alone  :  a  pretty  thing  like  you,  perceived  as  defenceless  and  weak.  you  would  love  to  prove  the  worst  of  mankind  wrong.  would  they  cower  at  the  sight  of  you  unleashed  ?  you  think  they  would,  and  it  draws  a  subtle  smile  to  the  corners  of  your  lips  as  you  wait  leaned  back  against  a  wall  made  of  brick,  half  hidden  by  shadows  cast  from  above.  a  body  falls  with  grace  from  above  you,  landing  on  their  feet  and  rising  with  ease  :  your  brow  lifts  as  your  smile  shifts  in  to  an  amused  smirk.     “ you’re  late, “     you  drawl  listlessly,  hands  pushed  in  to  your  pockets  before  you  slide  one  out  and  reach  forward.

            you  have  to  push  away  from  the  wall  with  your  shoulders  as  you  reach  for  her  hand,  fingers  wrapping  delicately  around  her  wrist.  you  close  the  distance  between  the  two  of  you,  holding  her  in  place  by  her  hand  between  you  as  you  slant  your  mouth  over  hers.  the  kiss  is  chaste,  it  could  be  more,  but  as  you  said  :  you’re  late.  you  grin  as  you  pull  away  just  as  quickly  as  you  drew  her  in,  stepping  past  her  and  tugging  on  her  hand  before  you  release  it,  a  gesture  for  her  to  follow  you  as  laughter  unspoken  shines  in  the  blue  of  your  eyes.

I shouldn’t be here. It’s the only thought going through her mind as she sneaks in, her back to the wall and recorder in her hand. She’d been watching the door to a politician's brownstone for what seemed like hours with nothing interesting happening. Then she’d seen the figure leap across rooftops and in through a window of the building next door. Despite the instincts telling her to stay in the car, curiosity has won out.

She’s heard stories of the Bat, everyone has, and she can’t help but wonder if that was who she was going to find when she reached the source of the rummaging noises. Though she’d always expected more chaos the first time she saw the Bat, or at least more police presence.

It’s as she turns the corner to see a lithe figure with a gem held between delicate fingers that it dawns on her what a mistake this was. As quietly as she can Betty starts to back away, keeping an eye on the woman but just as she thinks she’s out of sight her foot lands on something uneven and she’s falling with a cry.
