"Ladies and gentleman, just a reminder that the auditions for the musical will begin in the auditorium in five minutes," The words ring from the intercom.
"People! Make sure your audition number is clearly visible on your clothes!" Carlos yells over the bustle of the room. "This isn't a game."
(Y/n) chuckles, her eyes sparkling with amusement.
Nini and (Y/n) were sitting on opposite sides of the room - their usual audition ritual. Nini is accompanied by EJ and Kourtney.
(Y/n) leans over her guitar, her fingers gently plucking a soft tune - her usual audition ritual - her eyes closed as her nose points down towards the guitar.
There is a knocking on the doorframe of the room, and there is a ringing silence.
"Okay, theatre people," Miss Jenn, who had walked into the room, claps her hands. "Let's do this."
Then her eyes fall on (Y/n), whose guitar is still sitting in her lap.
"Bring the guitar," Miss Jenn says, then she leaves, (Y/n) blinking in surprise.
(Y/n) puts a strap on her guitar, and she follows her twin out of the room, her guitar resting on her back.

Miss Jenn stops beside (Y/n), who is sitting offstage, tuning her guitar.
"How long have you been playing guitar?" Miss Jenn asks, and (Y/n) blinks, looking surprised.
"About nine to ten years," (Y/n) replies.
"Well, good luck," Miss Jenn tells her.
(Y/n) watches Miss Jenn with a slightly confused look on her face, but as she goes to focus back on guitar, she catches the eye of a very pretty redhead who is standing in a line to do her audition readings.
The redhead is dressed in a pink sweatshirt with the same shade of pink sweatpants, and her hair is pulled back.
The redhead smiles at (Y/n), her eyes crinkling cutely.
All the breath leaves (Y/n)'s chest and she sits stunned for a moment before she shakes herself.
(Y/n) looks up again when she sees Miss Jenn stop in front of the redhead.
"You," Miss Jenn studies the redhead closely. "You're giving me uncommon depth. Ms. Darbus?" Miss Jenn offers.
"I'm dying. I'm deceased. Yes." the girl says and (Y/n) giggles uncharastically.
"Oh, your application says you play piano?" Miss Jenn asks.
"I dabble," the girl replies.
"You ever written a song?" Miss Jenn asks.
"I mean, nothing I've ever shared with anyone," the girl admits.
"I always thought the drama teacher should have an Act Two power ballad," Miss Jenn smiles at the girl.
(Y/n) continues to watch as Miss Jenn reaches Nini. "And how about we have you read for Kelsi?" Miss Jenn asks.
(Y/n) sets down her guitar and goes to stand next to the last boy in line.
Nini pauses, and she glances down at her twin. (Y/n) nods her encouragement.
"Gabriella," Nini corrects. "I wanna audition for Gabriella."
"Okay," Miss Jenn smiles at Nini. She moves on to the boy in between (Y/n) and Nini. "You're reading for Ryan, right?" she asks.
(Y/n) can sense the boy's discomfort, and Carlos pipes up, "I think he'd rather play Sharpay."
Miss Jenn looks back at the blonde haired boy, and he grins. "I love that. That is so fresh."
Miss Jenn takes one more step to stand in front of (Y/n). Glancing back at Nini, Miss Jenn can see the similarities between the two girls.
Studying (Y/n) closely, Miss Jenn glances down at her clipboard.

"Okay, the last of the Troys," Miss Jenn says as EJ walks onto stage with a basketball clutched in his hands. "And he comes with props." EJ fake throws the ball, and catches it again, chuckling. "Whenever you're ready," Miss Jenn tells EJ. "Okay," her voice softens, "what do I need to know?" she asks Carlos, who is sitting beside her.
"EJ Caswell," Carlos begins. "Most Instagram followers. Co-Captain of the Water Polo team. Senior class treasurer. Wakes up looking like that. Doesn't know I exist."
"I hope he can carry a tune," Miss Jenn says.
As EJ sings his piece, Nini smiles, her eyes softening with affection.
"Well, excuse me, Armie Hammer just called," Miss Jenn says and (Y/n)'s eyebrows raise. "He wants his jawline back." (Y/n) chuckles and EJ looks confused, glancing over at Nini and (Y/n), who were standing next to each other. "We're moving on to the Gabriellas," Miss Jenn goes on as EJ walks over to the wings.
The girl - Gina Porter, who had the fancy dance moves in the warm up - sings her piece with a steady voice.
"She's good," Nini murmurs in (Y/n)'s ear, sounding worried.
"We're going together," (Y/n) replies. "You're leading. You'll do amazing."
EJ comes to stand beside Nini and Nini turns to her boyfriend. "Okay, I could really use some last-minute tips. Like, now."
(Y/n) steps slightly away so they could talk.
"And that's why I love you," (Y/n) can hear EJ say, and Nini freezes.
. . .
(Y/n) is walking up to her bedroom but she freezes at her door as Ricky rushes past.
"Ricky?" (Y/n) asks but Ricky doesn't answer, his head bowed.
(Y/n) messes with her doorknob before she moves to Nini's room where her twin was hugging a pillow to her chest, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Nin?" (Y/n) asks, moving over to her sister's bed.
Sitting down, Nini collapses into her sister's arms, sobbing against her shoulder.
. . .
"You ready?" (Y/n) asks her sister.
"Any intel on these two?" Miss Jenn asks as the two sisters walk out into the center of the stage.
"Nini Salazar-Roberts," Carlos says, nodding to Nini. "Harmless chorus girl. Usually plays farm animals and trees. (Y/n) Salazar-Roberts," Carlos goes on, gesturing to (Y/n). "Orchestra girl. Plays cello, guitar, viola, and piano. Co-Captain of the cross-country team."
"Okay, Nini, (Y/n)! Whenever you're ready," Miss Jenn says louder so the twins can hear.
Nini goes to start, but there are heavy footsteps approaching somewhere, and (Y/n) and Nini pause.
The door at the back of the auditorium slams open and (Y/n) scowls as she hears Ricky yell, "Am I too late? Am I too late?"
The redhead, whose eye (Y/n) had caught earlier, watches (Y/n) as she turns, facing her twin, murmuring something that the others can't hear. The redhead can see Nini relax a little, however.
"We're all set on Troys," Miss Jenn tells Ricky as he jumps up the stairs. "We're low on Chads. You can read after the Gabriellas."
"I-I only studied the Troy scenes in the movie," Ricky stutters and EJ rolls his eyes.
"Troy would have arrived on time," Carlos replies, looking annoyed.
"I hope that was ironic," (Y/n) comments and the others laugh.
Miss Jenn turns away from Ricky and back towards (Y/n) and Nini, who were standing shoulder to shoulder, (Y/n)'s feet spread slightly, as though grounding herself.
"Whoo!" EJ yells, cheering his girlfriend on.
Miss Jenn starts, her coffee spilling on the light board.
Electricity crackles and the lights flicker off, leaving the others sitting in darkness.
"Nobody panic!" Miss Jenn calls after a moment, trying to mop up her spilled coffee with a few sheets of paper. "Girls, let's wait for the lights to come back on," she goes on. "I don't want this to throw you."
(Y/n) takes a deep breath, exchanging a glance with Nini.
"We're not thrown," Nini says, furrowing her eyebrows.
(Y/n) and Nini begin the song, and both Ricky and EJ jump up, flicking on their phone lights and shining them in (Y/n) and Nini's eyes.
. . .
Watching the twins sing, the redhead notices how well their voice complement each other's, Nini's higher voice easily matching up with (Y/n)'s lower voice.
Just as the two finish, the lights flicker back on.
(Y/n) glances at Nini. "Funny how that happens."
Nini regards her twin with amusement, while the others on the stage laugh.
Miss Jenn considers the two in front of her for a moment, Ricky and EJ turning off their phone flashlights.
"Good job you two," Miss Jenn says, looking impressed.
(Y/n) grins at her sister and the two walk over, sitting down.
Nini had plopped herself beside EJ, leaving (Y/n) to sit in between her and the pretty redhead that had caught her eye earlier.
"You, late boy," Miss Jenn calls back to Ricky. "Let's do the Chad sides."
(Y/n) throws a protective arm around Nini's shoulders as Ricky walks to the middle of the stage.

“okay, you’re all signed in and they’ll come get you when they’re ready and nini will take you home and keep an eye on you until i get home from work, okay? love you.” y/n’s guardian explained. y/n nodded and sighed looking around the waiting room as they left. the room was extremely clean, there were chairs that formed a ‘u’ shape along the wall which faced the counter where a woman sat doing paper work and occasionally signing patients in when they entered the building. in between every other chair there were end tables that were littered with magazines and small books. nini sat next to y/n on her left, both girls looking at their phones by the time y/n’s name was finally called.
the nurse had y/n sit down and relax, distracting her with questions about her school and friends, which had y/n telling her all about their school’s production of beauty and the beast. eventually y/n was fast asleep and the doctor came in and began his work.
y/n was in and out of consciousness for the entire procedure which only took thirty minutes. y/n could hear nini talking to the doctor, he was telling her about what to do once she got her home. nini nudged y/n, her face was swollen and her had gauze in her mouth. “y/n, let’s get up and get you home.”
y/n sat up slowly and looked around, her eyes suddenly widening. she looked at the doctor, “where are my teef?” she asked, her voice muffled and slurred, “can i have ‘em?”
the doctor and nini laughed, and the doctor answered, “i don’t think you want, them they’re really gross and cut up.”
y/n whimpered, “you cut my teef?” her eyes started to well up with tears as nini wrapped her arm around her shoulder in comfort.
“let’s just get you home.” she guided y/n up to her feet and tried to lead her out of the room.
y/n let herself go limp, crumpling to the ground and almost taking nini with her, “no!” she cried, burying her face in her hands, “i want my teef!” nini stifled a laugh and tried to pull her up, one of the nurses coming to help. they manged to get her to the waiting room but y/n let herself fall to the floor once again and refused to get up.
nini reassured the nurses and doctor that they could continue with their day, “i can call a couple of my friends, they can get her to the car.”
nini pulled out her phone and called the first person she though of, “ricky! hey, are you busy right now?”
“not really, why?”
nini sighed and looked over at y/n who managed to crawl to the chairs where she was currently trying to get off the ground do she could sit in it. “y/n got her wisdom teeth out and i’m supposed to be taking her home but she refuses to leave without her teeth, can you help me, please?”
ricky laughed, “yeah, we’ll be there, in less than ten.”
“we?”
“yeah, i have big red, ashlyn, and gina with me right now.” ricky explained.
nini soon ended the call and looked to see y/n laying limply in the chair, both arms in the rests and head hanging limply. nini sat don next to her, “hey, y/n. guess what, ricky, big red, ash, and gina are all on their way to see you.”
y/n looked up, her head lolling to the left. her eyes lit up and she gasped, “really? i love them, they’re so sweet.” y/n’s voice cracked and she started looking around the room her eyes land on the table of magazines next to her. she gasped and reached for one of the magazines. “nini look! it’s harry. harry styles.” she finally managed to grab the magazine still mumbling harry’s name. she showed the magazine to a laughing nini who nodded and softly agreed with her.
soon the doors opened and ricky followed by ahslyn, big red, and gina all entered to office. “hey, guys. she refuses to walk. she wants her teeth back.”
“come on y/n, we should go.” ashlyn tried.
y/n frowned, “but my teef!” her eyes began to well up and it took everything for all of the to contain their ‘aws.’
“okay, can i show you something, y/n?” ricky asked as he guided her to stand, wrapping her arm around his shoulder. y/n nodded as big red went to her other side to guide her to the door. “okay, that’s good. it’s really cool. i think you’ll really like it. we just have to get past those doors, okay?”
y/n nodded and looked at the door. soon they were outside and on their way to ricky’s car.
“how were you going to get her home?” gina ask nini as the three girls walked behind y/n and the boys.
“i called and uber but, i’m guessing they left when we didn’t come outside.” nini explained.
the two girls nodded in understanding as they watched the two boys struggle to get her in the car, “no! i want my teef!”
nini laughed, “can i get in really fast?” ricky nodded as nini climbed into the car. “y/n, come here. i have to tell you something and it’s really important.”
y/n perked up, “what?”
nini gestured for her to come closer, “come here and i’ll tell you.”
reluctantly. y/n got into the car, to the relief of the boys.
“i don’t think all of us are going to fit in that car.” gina pointed out as nini helped y/n get comfortable, whispering something in her ear.
“i can call an uber.” ashlyn offered, “are we all going back to y/n’s then?”
ricky nodded as big red spoke up, “i’ll ride with you, kep you company and stuff.” his face flushed. ashlyn nodded, her face taking a similar hue. the two broke off as ricky and gina got into the front seat.
they began driving and y/n pulled out the magazine from under her shirt. “y/n! did you steal that?” nini exclaimed, causing gina to look back and laugh when she saw what y/n was holding.
“yeah?” y/n stared at the cover of it for moment before groaning, “my face hurts!” nini cooed at her as she laid her head on her shoulder.
nini ran her fingers through her hair to comfort her, “we’re almost to yours, okay? then we can get you cleaned up a bit.”
“you take such good care of me. wait, are you single?” y/n asked leaning more into her.
nini laughed, “no, actually, i’m not.”
y/n sat up quickly, “what? i was gonna ask you out, you’re really pretty.”
everyone in the car burst into laughter, “y/n, i’m dating you. you’re my girlfriend, did you forget?”
realization washed over y/n’s face, “i remember that now.”
the car pulled into y/n’s driveway and gina sighed, “i can’t wait to show her that later.” gestured to the phone in her hand.
“you were recording? that’s going to be so priceless to see her reaction!” ricky exclaimed as they all got out of the car.
For Nini’s and Y/N’s first Valentine's Day together, Nini wanted to make it very special. She loves to show the world how much Y/N means to her. Also, Y/N’s old friend from her old school was coming to visit. Ashlyn planned a small party for the theatre club so Y/N can bring her friend.
“I’m very excited for you guys to meet. I promise that you will love each other” Y/N said as they were walking down the hallway the day before Valentine. “She must be very important to you,” Nini asked, smirking at how happy her girlfriend is. Y/N quickly grabs Nini’s hand and pulls her in. “She is almost as important as you are to me. I hope you don’t think that she’s above you. She’s just helped me come to terms with my sexuality. She kinda led me to you. So I can be ready to be with you without worrying about anything. I want her to meet you because you’re important to me” Y/N spoke worrying that she was making Nini feel less than she is. Nini smiled and shook her head. “Don’t worry Y/N, I know that you love me” Nini kissed her making Y/N blushed.
The next day, Y/N picked up her friend from the bus station. She was taking her over to Ashlyn's house, “So how are you liking the new school” Dora asked looking at Y/N. “I love it, I met so many great people. I also started to date, someone.” Y/N confessed shyly. Dora gave her a shocked look. “Really?” she asked. “Yeah her name is Nini, she’s great, You will love her. She treats me like a princess.” Y/N nod smiling thinking about Nini. “Did she do something for Valentine's Day?” Dora asked, crossing her arms. “Yeah, she gave me chocolate and this cute hippo. She told me that my main gift, she will give me later. I also am giving her gift later, well actually right now at the party, but you know what I mean.” Y/N answer smiling.
Dora was shocked to hear that Y/N was dating much less a girl. They met in middle school. Y/N was new to the whole school since she met halfway through the year. Dora helped her with everything. Finding her class or homework that she needed to catch up on, she even got her into the drama club in the school. She started to notice how protective she was with Y/N. At first, she didn’t know why until Y/ came out to her. That when she knew the reason why. She had a crush on Y/N. She saw Y/N slowly come to the term with her sexuality. She made the attempt to ask Y/N out but Y/N told her that she wasn’t ready to come out in public. Dora waited for her until Y/N told her that for high school, she was going to move since her dad wanted her closer to him. She always thought Y/N and her were soulmates, that they eventually found their way to each other. Now to hear how much this Nini girl has Y/N acting like she was on cloud nine was angry.
When they arrived at Ashlyn’s house, Y/N quickly walked up to the door and knocked. Nini, knowing that it was Y/N and her friend, quickly went to open the door. “Hey,” Nini smiled, seeing Y/N with her friend behind her. “Hi” Y/N smiled shyly. “Come in, Ashlyn was about to bring the food.” Nini reaches her hand for Y/N. “Cool” Y/N took her hand and walked in, she stopped to close the door for Dora. “Nini this is my friend from my old school, Dora. Dora this my girlfriend, Nini” Y/N introduce them smiling. “Hi, Y/N told me a lot about you, it’s nice to meet you” Nini spoke smiling nervously. “Hey,” Dora smiled fakely at her. Nini’s smile falters a bit seeing that Dora was kinda being short with her. She knew a fake smile when she saw one.
“You’re here” The three girls hear Ashlyn shout once she sees Y/N and Dora. “Hey, guys this is my friend, Dora. Dora this is the theatre club in East High.” Y/N walks into the living room with Nini, while Dora follows them. “Hey, nice to meet you all,” Dora said smiling. Nini just falters more seeing that Dora already dislikes her. Nini really wants Dora to like her since she means a lot to Y/N. “Anyways, should we eat” Ashlyn spoke, making everyone nod and sit down around the living room. Y/N quickly make sure Nini and Dora sit beside her.
“Okay, we will eat first then couples can do your cute stuff and give gifts while us singles people can watch and cry on the inside,” Kourtney said making everyone smile and shake their heads. They eat and chat, Nini has tried to talk with Dora but she would be short with her. Y/N nudged Dora to give her a look. Y/N gave Nini a kiss on the head and whispered to ignore Dora.
After everyone finished eating, the gifts came out. When it was Y/N and Nini turned, YN quickly took a box out from her bag and put it into Nini’s lap. Nini smiles and opens it to find a frame with Nini and Y/N’s first date picture. They have taken a selfie, Nini had to keep asking for the picture a million times but Y/N would always forget. Nini blush and kiss Y/N. “I love it,” Nini whispers once she pulls away making Y/N blushed. “Okay my turn” Nini went to the piano that Ashlyn had in the living room and started to sing the song that she wrote for Y/N.
Once Nini was done, she turned to Y/N, who was smiling hugely, and ran up to her. “That was amazing, thanks Nini,” Y/N said, kissing her. Everyone clapped and cheered. Dora rolled her eyes,” Really just a song? Y/N gave you something that you can hang up in your room but she can’t put that in her room or something.”Dora spoke, making everyone quiet. “DORA” Y/N called in shocked. “What? It’s true” Dora said, standing up. “It isn’t about whether I can put it in my room or something. Nini asked me once what my perfect gift was and I said her singing to me.” Y/N said angry, Nini was already wiping tears, she hated that she made Y/N and Dora argue. “Whatever, settle for less Y/N” Dora spat looking at Nini and walking out. Y/N breath out and grab Nini’s hand and follow Dora.
The others follow Y/N and Nini, “Dora what is your problem. I know that you’re easy to get along with the others, but what is with Nini that you dislike.” Y/N spoke following Dora to the driveway. “I could and would treat you better, I would buy you the best stuff but no, you’re here with her,” Dora yelled. “But Dora, I’m happy with Nini. Isn’t that enough, Nini is everything for me, I’m sorry if I made you think that I would wait for you. I told you before I left, go and be happy. Don’t wait for me. I love Nini. She means the word for me.” Y/N spoke, making Dora just roll her eyes. “Did you know that I came out to my grandma before she died, Dora, I was nervous out of my mind but I did it. Did you know that she hugged me and said that she was happy for me. That I was still me but just able to walk without anything weighing me down. She even met Nini and she loved her. You met her, Dora. My grandma was as religious as it came and never liked anyone. But she approved of Nini being my girlfriend. If she can look past her beliefs that she grew up with since she was young because she knew that Nini made me happy. Can’t you look past your crush.” Y/N stopped still holding on to Nini’s hands.
Dora just nodded and walked away. “Thought so” Y/N nod and turn to Nini. “I’m…..so sorry Y/N” Nini cried. Y/N just shook her head and hugged her. “Forget her, I'm still happy” Y/N whispers, making Nini smile and hug her tighter. ”I love you” Nini whispers, kissing Y/N. “Let’s keep this Valentine's Day party going” Y/N yelled, making everyone cheer and walk back into Ashlyn’s house.
You were currently working at Chesters Coffee (Made it up, don't know if that's a thing) You love that job, you get to meet new people, making drinks and experimenting. The free drinks policy for workers and the money is also an added bonus.
"Hi welcome to Chesters" You smile as you turn to see two girls. "what can I get you?"
"Uhh-" The girl stuttered.
"Um, I'll have an iced coffee" The other girl ordered before giving the girl a look.
"I-I'll have a latte" The girl smiled as she was still a little stunned.
"Okay" you smile thinking she was adorable. "What are your names?" You ask holding on to a cup.
"Kourtney" She introduced, "and this is Nini"
"Nini" You mutter "I like that" You smile before going to make the coffee unaware at the impact you made on Nini.
"Girl you need to chill" Kourtney smirked seeing Nini blush.
Once you finished the drinks you brought it to them handing them both the drinks. "I'm Y/N by the way" You greet while giving Nini a wink before heading back to the counter.
Nini watched as you left smiling like in a daze. She looked at the drink and saw your number written on the cup.

"Get it girl" Kourtney cheered seeing it on her cup. She looked at the time and realized she had to pick up her cousin. "well I got to go, I'll see you later?" Kourtney asks picking up her iced coffee.
"Yea" Nini smiled.
"Okay oh! but um you should go for it, like ask her out" Kourtney advised before heading out.
You finished your shift and turned to realize Nini was still there doing her homework. She looked up and locked eyes with you instantly smiling. She got out of her seat and headed towards you. "Hi," She says smiling.
"Hello," You say amused.
"W-would you like to maybe go out sometime?" Nini asks getting nervous.
"I would love to" You reply trying to hold back a squeal.
"Oh! Umm- great! I'll uh- I'll text you!" Nini rambled nervously before grabbing her bag and drink. "yea maybe we can go grab a drink" she starts before realizing this is where you work "or! uh, we watch a movie and eat pizza?"
"Sure" You grin. "I love pizza, especially with movies"
"Okay! Great! I'll a- I'll be going now" She stuttered out before clumsily leaving the coffee shop, looking back at you.
You watch her leave smiling like an idiot, unable to contain your excitement. You couldn't wait for your first date with her, and neither could she.

"Y/n/n come on!" Nini laughed, running ahead of you to the open gates of the flower garden. She stopped running when she reached the bunches of marigolds, kneeling down to smell the flowers.
You smiled at her as she did so, heart-swelling at her peaceful beauty. It was as if she felt your stare, her head picking up to smile back at you.
And when she was sad, I was there to dry her tears.
Nini grasped onto your arms as she sobbed, shoulders racking as she messily told you what had happened.
"I told him I loved him and he left. Then he said we should take a break."
You frowned, softly caressing her head. "I'm sorry Nini, you don't deserve that."
And when she was happy so was I.
You helped Nini up by the arm, gripping onto her. She thanked you quickly, brushing off her pants as she looked at the horizon before her. She cheered, throwing her arms up as she celebrated. You couldn't help but do the same, grinning when she beamed at you.
Through the summer and the fall, we had each other, that was all.
"Okay junior year, we totally got this right?" Nini asked, holding her stuffed bear in her arms.
You chuckled at her nervousness, "Yes we got this. Come on, it won't be that bad, promise." You sat up in her chair, hugging one of her throw pillows. "It's only July either way, we got about two months before we can freak out." She laughed, nodding her head in return.
And I knew that she loved me
"I'm going to theater camp."
You peered up at Nini over your sketch pad, discarding the ruler and pencil in your hands. "You are?" She nods. "When?"
"Tomorrow." She replied, holding her hands behind her back. "I'm sorry for not telling you sooner it's just if you tried to convince me to stay I would have because you know, I can never say no to you."
You stared at her, blinking at her response. "Oh." There was silence for another moment before you spoke up again. "That's really cool Nini, I hope you have fun."
She let out a breath as she smiled, nodding her head at you. "Thanks."
So the years went by, I stayed the same, but she began to drift away, I was left alone, Still, I waited for the day, When she'd say, "I will always love you"
You hadn't talked to Nini since August. She just never got around to your text, and when she did it was simple one-word answers instead of her usual 3-4 sentence answers about anything.
You walked alone into the school, students swarming the halls as they chatted and goofed around before the first bell rang. You hadn't seen Nini yet, and you couldn't decide if you should be relieved or concerned due to her going m.i.a on you only.
You yelped when someone almost ran into you, looking up to see Ricky standing in front of you, Big Red trailing behind.
"Did you know Nini was going to break up with me?" He breathed out, his curls falling in front of his eyes.
You shook your head, "I didn't know anything about that."
"Aren't you like one of her best friends? Doesn't she tell you about this kind of junk?"
"I wouldn't know Ricky, Nini went m.i.a on me since August. I wish I could help you but I really can't." You responded, walking away from Ricky, accepting the sympathetic smile Big Red gave you.

Lunch finally came after three hours of 'get to know me' worksheets and power points from teachers. You sat with Ashlyn, a nice girl who gladly welcomed you to sit with her. You held your breath when nini started walking towards you, a guy trailing behind her.

"Hi Y/n."
You glanced up at her for a mere second, still catching the frown that made its way to her lips. "Hey."
"I'm sorry I ghosted you, I was caught up with camp." You nodded, looking up at her. She wrapped her arms around your neck, your arms automatically wrapping around her waist. She held you for longer than you expected, squeezing you before releasing.
"I love you, you know?" She said, tilting her head at you.
You stared at her, heart twinging in pain because she didn't love you the way you loved her. "Yeah." You finally said, nodding. "I love you too."
She nodded, hugging you once more before getting up, linking her arm with the guy who trailed behind her. "I'll see you around okay?" You nodded, watching her leave, blinking back whatever tears that wanted to come out.
You bid goodbye to Ashlyn and her other friend, walking out of the cafeteria. Ricky popped up in front of you, a solemn expression on his face. "I overheard your guys' conversation." He paused, eyes darting around. "I saw the way you looked at her." You sucked in a deep breath, closing your eyes as you ducked your head down. "I am so sorry Y/n."
Your head picked up when he placed a hand on your shoulder, your lips pressed in a thin line. "You don't have to apologize to me, Ricky. Every hour I spent with Nini lives within my heart. And I'll remember when she loved me." You wiped the stray tear that fell, nodding as you let out a breath. You accepted the hug he offered, picking at the sherpa fur of his jean jacket before pulling away. You smiled half-heartedly at him, "Thank you." He smiled back at you, nodding. "I'll see you around Ricky."

you and the theatre group gathered in ashlyn’s house, a party before opening night. you and gina in the kitchen, swinging your legs as you sit on the counter, tears welling in your eyes. “you should just tell her”
“i can’t! i haven’t told anyone i’m bisexual instead of you and myself. i..i can’t tell nina i’m in love with her. she doesn’t feel the same way, she loves ricky.. and e.j. i don’t have a chance” you wipe your eyes and your breath hitches in your throat when you see nini standing in the door way, clenching her can in her hands.
“i- uh.. i wanted-” she quickly left the room, and you bowed your head as more tears fell.
“goddamnit!” you jump down and leave the kitchen, running out the back door and everyone asking if you were okay, and gina told them you were fine. you slid down the side of the house, taking deep breaths and staring at the sky. you hear footsteps next to you, and they stop as she sits on the steps. “how long were you standing there?”
“long enough to hear what you said.. about me..” you sigh and look over to nini, a flower in her hand.
“you shouldn’t have even been there! you told me that you weren’t even going to come to the party, you wanted to stay home and bake cookies. i tried to talk to gina in private, but you came in. and now you know.. and probably hate me” you run your fingers through your hair.
there was a silence before she spoke up again. “i never told anyone besides ricky and my moms.. but i’m bisexual. known for years. and i fell in love with my best friend. i fell in love with the way you laugh, how you care for other people. i don’t care about e.j. and ricky. sure i loved them, but not in the way i love you” you sit next to nini, leaning towards her and smiling.
“you drive me nuts, you know that?” you smile and she laughs, leaning forward and kissing you quickly. you lick your lips and smile, nini’s eyes widening.
“i didn’t mean to. i mean i did, but i didn’t even ask if i could kiss you and i’m so sor-” you cut her off, a hand on her thigh as you kiss her more meaningfully.
“i love you too, nini. and i mean it” you whisper and she smiles, kissing you again. “do you.. do you want to sleep over?”
“i would love to” she whispered and you smile, nodding and kissing her quickly once more before taking her hand and getting up off the step.
