It had been a few weeks since Naruto and Hinata’s wedding, meaning that Hinata’s inauguration as the Hyuga Head would be soon, a few days from this day. While he had been busy with his work in the ANBU black ops, he still found the time to attend Hinata’s wedding and to talk to his sister about events to come, her concerns with them. The conversation, though a few weeks old, remained fresh in his mind. Other things had been on Neji’s mind as well, his lover, Tenten, being one of the most prominent. He wished he was able to tell her everything, he wished that he had the time to sit and talk her through everything that was about to happen. However, with him being away so often, it was nearly impossible. She needed to know the truth, but there were other things Neji needed to discuss with her, however daunting they may be for him to try and bring up.
He had only just come home from a mission, and after his reports were submitted to the Hokage, he made his way home, changing and finding a certain small box to tuck into his shuriken holster before making his way over to where he knew Tenten would be, the training ground team Gai had spent so many hours on over the years. He approached in quietly, pausing as he spotted his lover so absorbed in her target practice. So focused on her craft, she exuded a beauty and sense of confidence that Neji found himself falling in love with all over again every time he saw it. And suddenly he couldn’t move, all sorts of thoughts about how badly this could go bombarding his mind from all angles. No, Hyuga, get a hold of yourself. This is Tenten, you know her. Everything will be fine. Neji closed his eyes, taking a deep breath and reaching into his shuriken holster to make sure the box was still there before finally walking out into the open field.
“Have mercy on that target board, Tenten. Hasn’t the poor thing been through enough?” He greeted lightheartedly, trying his best to sound as casual as he could as he walked out, wearing a genuine gentle smile though as he did.
