we be talking about rusty and kai this whole time (they're kings why lie) but not many are talking about my WIFE DAIDAN PLEASE I NEED MORE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT HER
if rusty parallels kai by contrasting grief with hopelessness and perseverance, then daidan parallels kai by delving deep into her rage. i see a lot of s4 kai in daidan's segment; she props herself up with her anger, because if she lets herself feel she's going to crash so much harder. she's trapped herself, much like kai and rusty have done, in the singular moment in her grief.
'you're weak. you made me weak'
idk about you but this isn't an insult. this is a genuine fear on daidan's part. she's afraid to let herself be vulnerable because it will consume her in a way her rage has not. it's almost a polar opposite of rusty recognising his loss but wanting to remain stagnant after everything, to sink into the inevitability of the immutable fact (ironic, then, that he's found in the 'cave of change').
daidan is not like rusty. she does not feel the way he does. she can't. she's too wound up. there's so much wrong in the world. she needs to draw her strength from somewhere
better to bloody herself after fighting with vengeance than to actually process and acknowledge what she's been through, or the possibility that grief will not be all that is left
i literally can't get over the first opening sequence. it's so atmospheric. the third shot is kai slicing a monster in two. the THIRD SHOT. everything that follows is literally a masterclass in animation AND storytelling
please on GOD ninjago legends needs to continue with this style with this tone with this cinematic masterpiece
taken from brickworld's schedule
is this what i think it means
wait wait this is an interesting parallel with how monstrosity currently slots into dragons rising continuinity
how absolutely fucked up that we only know of monstrosity's existence because of what kai and the rest of the ninja had to go through in the phantasm caves in dr se2e4. freaky tentacle thing zapping him into his worst fears, his worst nightmares- lost and trapped and far from his family
how sick must the writers be to have monstrosity flip that on its head- drawing kai out into the water, out to drown him, toward the serene image of his family, just out of his reach. for a brief moment, he was trapped in his most simple wishes- to be with his family again, to not be alone
imagine. kai's worst fear was feeling like he had found his family again, only for it to be a trick. he's lost and his hopes have been dashed, drowned. god

im so sorry for the shitty recording but i still can’t get over the fact that KAI WAS HESITANT TO TRUST DAIDAN AND RUSTY IN THE BEGINNING????? OH CHAT HOW AM I GOING TO LIVE FOR THE NEXT TEN DAYS
Hopefully if Rusty and Daidan survive monstrosity and ever get introduced into dragon rising or something they’ll be introduced as antagonists or just relatively dodgy figures who Kai doesn’t realize it’s them because they end up having such BAD reputations (maybe they don’t know how to act in a non LoM setting, maybe they are just kind of assholes) but when Kai meets them again it’s like one OLD vine where the two people find the other across the McDonald’s and is like “BESTIE!” And then a third bestie comes in and they get more excited.
And then they work like dogs in machine to destroy a escapee from the realm of monsters with horrific precision and fiendish violence full on “and that’s when I start blastin’” they look at Kai and are like “we need you to LOCK in man.”
THIS IS LITERALLY SO INCREDIBLY FUNNY TO ME?? but also i need this to happen. i genuinely hope that daidan and rusty aren't one-and-done characters and do make an appearance later.... having less than ten minutes each with no follow-up appearances will actually make me explode. with rage. i need kai to have his own personal gang bro it's unreal
all the ninja just stare at kai devolving into a killing machine of a menace, but wyldfyre actively encourages him from the sidelines. "kai please lock in tell us who these guys are" coupled with an extremely loud "WHO CARES THEY'RE PUNCHING THINGS REALLY HARD, LET ME IN ON IT"
On bilibili (Chinese steaming platform) they’ve got monstrosity set to release on 15 June,,, so maybe a world release on all streaming platforms/youtube would likely be around then
