broke my phone (AGAIN????) posting this from my laptop. i am playing animal crossing wild world on my DS, i am using a portable CD player as my music, cause i cant use spotify. also reading books, currently reading a Goosebumps book. listened to a clubland CD on a cycle, was actually fun and motivational somehow. feeling nostalgic, get rid of ur phone xxxxx

Asphalt is one of the two games my parents bought for me when they gave me my original DS, and looking back on it I find this to be a very fortunate turn of events. Developed by Gameloft, a company that makes cheap mobile games and ports, it was a rare original IP from them, and a rare appearance on a non-mobile phone platform; I should not have enjoyed it as much as I did, spending many nights I should have been sleeping racing cars instead, liberated by the backlight screen. Sure, I probably overlooked a lot due to my love for cars, and the fact that I was just amazed by handheld 3D graphics, but I think the music is one of the main reasons I am talking about it now. Laid back house, with a little latin flair, gave the game a Pebble Beach sophistication that did not fit the “go fast, hit stuff, score high” gameplay, but fit the menus and garages of the game very well. I suspect it has influenced me more as a musician than most albums that I love, and for that I thank my parents and a brief spark at Gameloft, which never recaptured the game I fell in love with with the following 7+ sequels to this game.
