Major Nintendo leaks
Pretty disappointed in Tumblr for the lack of talk over this.
Basically a Chinese server had a ton of old nes-n64, gba and ds beta and prototype data leaked of old nintendo stuff.
We’ve found beta sprites for Super Mario World, Star Fox 2, Yoshi’s Island and a working rom of a game called Super Donkey that was reworked into Yoshi’s Island.
Yoshi Island’s original name was Super Mario Bros 5 (SMW was SMB4 in Japan) Which was long debated. The world map was animated and very different and the rom in the leaks uses different sound files. Bowser was also a different sprite that resembled a spikey moomin
Star Fox 2 had unused characters including a human woman and a female sheep pilot. SF64 also has had voices restored to original quality from the files.
Super Mario World had a shark, some silly dinosaurs, koopa kids had different sprites, and Yoshi looked more like an actual dinosaur.
Some Zelda sprites were found, Link was planned to have pink hair in another game, as well as having a sprite that resembles Zelda 2′s actual promo art, but in snes style not nes.
Now for 64 stuff:
Sadly no Rare stuff in the files, so gonna have to keep dreaming for Project Dream, Conker 64 and Dinosaur Planet beta.
Also no Mother 3.
Some waverace stuff, I know little about that game though so can’t tell you anything on it.
Some beta areas of Zelda, people are still digging to see if Ura Zelda stuff is in there (what became master quest on the game cube) and are still dreaming of finding the Unicorn Fountain. Currently just some early models of Link and the forest.
Mario 64, oh boy. L is real became real today. Luigi’s cut model pieces were found and put back together and people are trying to put him in the game as we speak. High quality “so long gay/kay Bowser” (I haven’t listened to it, but people keep saying it is “gay bowser”) Very early stage builds of Thomps Fortress, Cool Cool Mountain and Hazy Maze Cave.
Handhelds:
Gen 4 Pokemon- TONS of beta sprites, including at least 1 cut pokemon at this time, gyms had different badges, Cyrus was used as a place holder trainer a lot, the rom uploaded isn’t finished and falls apart after a certain gym horribly, but did have a lot of the pokemon programed in.
This is all super interesting gaming history right here and more people need to be talking about it. I’ve seen a handful of Nintendo fanboys mad over the leak, but a lot of this is 30 year old games that Nintendo wasn’t ever going to release this stuff from. Gaming history needs to be shared more than it is, instead of being held on old storage devices until they’re lost to time (which is what a lot of Rare has said happened to original Conker 64)
