I’m shutting off my phone for a bit after this

The only reason I ever criticized that blog was because I heard from several others that the way it was approaching people was causing fear, and I try to stick up for artists when I can, I didn’t want anyone to be scared

Whitewashing sucks, low representation of POC characters/ people sucks, I really feel like that should go without saying but apparently I have to assert that that’s how I feel now which is strange

I have a problem with the format, not the purpose of the blog, I support the criticism, but not the way it’s published

That’s all I have to say on the matter, I wish this hadn’t become such a big deal but it did, unfortunately, and I can’t do anything about that

ok, your main point is that you don’t like the format of this blog because its public criticism. but guess what? when you post something on the internet, which is in fact public, then youre gonna get public criticism. if somebody calling you out on racism and colorism is scary to you, maybe consider that youre a racist colorist.

you told us that you wanted to put the entire thing behind you, then made another post about it. we messaged privately and agreed to stop, you even asked for us to delete all asks of yours that we posted. and yet you seem to be bent on prolonging this conflict. we ended it, what goes from here is on you, I can’t defend you if your actions dont match what you say.

I didn't say you aren't making a difference, I'm saying the way you're doing it is so!! Problematic!! The reason I haven't done anything about my art is because I sought out second opinions, I asked a lot of other people what they thought and from their opinions and my own I decided not to change it atm, no matter how you try to come across on this blog everything you say is still only YOUR opinion, not fact, and I literally do not see what you mean about messages only working for one artist?

Not all people change skin tone in lighting, to respond to your reply. No matter what lighting you put my boyfriend under he is still a dark skinned black man. His room lights change colors, purple, green, blue, you name it. He is still a dark skinned black man and that does not change no matter what lighting he’s under. The darker skinned PoC in Hamilton should not be depicted lighter than they are. The lighter skinned people shouldn’t be so obviously lightened that they become unrecognizable. 

If you’re not going to change your art or the way you depict these PoC, just understand that’s your choice, absolutely. But don’t post something publicly and then expect it to not be publicly contested. Sure, it’s our opinion, but we’re also comprised mostly of PoC who would like to acknowledge colorism in fan art. We will discuss the way we acknowledge artists who have whitewashing in their Hamilton fan art. 

Don’t modulate the key then not debate with me.

Can you explain to me why exactly you have an entire blog dedicated to this then?? I really do not see the point? Personally if I thought someone was whitewashing I'd just message them, because not only would that be a lot less hassle for them, but they'd be WAY more likely to actually see it. Not everyone checks all of their notes, this is just an ineffective way to contact artists in the first place. I just don't get it??

I. We have an entire blog dedicated to this because a) we don’t want to clog up our mains, and b) it’s a good way to collect all the stuff on whitewashed hamilart in one place.

II. Yeah, that would work if it was one artist. But it’s not; it’s a trend on here, hence the blog. The reason this blog was created wasn’t to ~hurt amateur artists~, it was to address the trend of whitewashing & lightening the skin tones of these characters of color in hamilton. I know at one point almost half the art in the John Laurens tag was seriously whitewashed.

And, jsyk, almost every artist besides you that we’ve called out has acknowledged their error & said they were going to recolor the art & understood why it was hurtful. so, yknow, we actually are helping to make a difference.

I'd love to have a polite conversation, but sadly you have direct messaging turned off, because apparently you're opposed to interacting with artists in anything but a public setting If you genuinely cared about artists you'd message them privately, not try to bring them down in front of your followers Stop acting like you're helping us, if this is how you go about helping artists then we don't want your help, you're only helping yourself, that's it, period

Really you're picking on amateur artists for something as subjective as color choice? I get where you're coming from but half of this shit doesn't look inaccurate, especially because color is so heavily influenced by lighting, and the cosplay thing? It's p fucked up to say that someone should be restricted by their race to cosplay anything? Why not contribute positively to the fan base instead of calling out a bunch of artists who likely don't have any negative intentions in the first place?

we’re not picking on them at all, we’re pointing out mistakes and trying to teach them how to work with poc characters and lighting! it’s a tricky thing, and it may be hard to get the skin tone right on the first try, don’t get me wrong it’s still whitewashing, but it is something that can worked on and fixed! and on the topic of cosplay within the hamilton fandom, i personally don’t get involved with that discourse or that particular part of the fandom so i’ll let someone else answer that.
