NIPAF ASIA WS- IN:ACT, 2016 in Vietnam

This is the new project of NIPAF (Nippon International Performance Art Festival, since 1993) by NIPAF director Seiji shimoda. Asian artists meets in Asian city together to have artist’s talk, performance and workshop etc for understand each other more deeply. This first edition is co-operated with local artists and art people in Vietnam. The participating Asian artists are from Japan, China, Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh.

Human is a social animal. You and i can't live alone. After learning the local language with writing, I drew Korean, English, and Vietnamese in the form of an echo. Finally, the act of wiping with a duster represented the intangible form of sound. Thanks to that short conversation, it was used for performance work. The sound gets louder and louder when the audience blows the pipe one by one as a participant, and I wrote Korean, Vietnamese and English alternately from center to echo form, and the form of the text is gradually enlarged. And when the act of playing the audience's pipe stops, I erase the text with a duster. This is an expression between the tangible of sound and the intangible of one.

After NIPAF, I returned to Korea and monitored the video, I found out that wrong English spelling in a performance done in Tokyo and Osaka. At that time, a writer who was not familiar with English incorrectly wrote Beautiful as Beatiful and Do you hear? As Are you hear? When I said I was so shameful, Nipaf director seiji replied as follow, “Many years ago one old polish artist told me he proud of performance art because it is only one art we can make mistake in front of people. It help me a lot of to do challenge always. He passed away last year January when he was 91 years old. You are still young, don’t worry. You can make lots of mistake. Haha~ If you keep challenge!”
