D2 film festival insanity.

First film we watched were actually two shorts, first one (Exposure) was super queer and really good, the second one (Light Changes) was unbearably boring.

Egoist was fantastic, very depressing tho, like very. Also don't recommend watching it in a room full of strangers, the nc scenes are plenty and graphic (and very good). It'll break your heart several times tho be prepared. Also had a bit of an awkward Q&A with the director.

Last one we just finished till almost midnight was called Scary Friend and was like a fever dream of a childs nightmare, surprisingly funny and extremely creative. This was the only film we voted on today and I gave it 5/5.

Like last year the japanese Filmfestival in Frankfurt Nippon Connection is happening online because of the pandemic. And while it means for me again staying at home instead of having Takoyaki and meeting my idols, it does also mean that more people outside Frankfurt/Germany and even some outside Europe get to take part in it!

The full program and tickets will be out on May 22nd and I will like last year post the list of films that I will be watching! The festival will be in the first week of june, films can be rented for 24 hours for I think 6eur, there's also festival tickets for several films so you can save some money!

If you want to support the Japanese film industry and watch some great films and maybe discuss them with me, I'd be super stoked!

A lecture by Dr. Tom Mes Free admission Lecture in English Friday, June 1, 15:00 Mousonturm Studio 1

If you’re going to be anywhere near Frankfurt, Germany on June 1st, Tom Mes, writer of Unchained Melody: The Films Of Meiko Kaji, is giving a 1 1/2 hour lecture on the films of Meiko Kaji (梶芽衣子) as part of the Nippon Connection festival.

On his Facebook page, Mes described the event as “a scenic tour of Kaji's career, with particular focus on the lesser-known but equally enthralling sights”.

I don’t know if the talk is going to be available online anywhere afterwards, but I really fucking hope so.

D3, last day! First film we saw was called TOCKA and was an, again very depressing film about a man trying to find someone to kill him. It wasn't bad, the performances and plot were actually quite good but the film would not end it felt like an eternity. 3/5

Mountain woman was a fantastic film about a young woman from an ostracised family fleeing her famine stricken village to live in the mountains. The Q&A after with the very cute director and also actress Toko Miura was once again, for some reason hilarious thanks to language struggles, the translator herself and Miura-san struggling not to burst into laughter (also quite possibly cause we were so tired we just laughed about every fucking thing). 5/5
